“Cancer doesn’t happen overnight - it often develops quietly over years.”

A common question I get is…
what are we actually looking at in a thermography scan?

Thermography looks at function, not structure.

Instead of looking for a lump or mass, we’re observing patterns such as:

• areas of increased heat
• inflammation
• vascular patterns (blood flow changes)
• asymmetry between one side and the other

We also use something called a cold challenge, which involves briefly cooling the hands as part of the functional assessment. This allows us to compare how the body responds against a baseline set of images taken just minutes prior.

In healthy tissue, blood vessels will typically constrict and then return to baseline in a predictable way.

When that response is altered, it can sometimes reflect differences in circulation or vascular activity.

In some cases, we may also observe patterns suggestive of increased vascular activity, where new blood vessel development can occur in response to higher metabolic demand within the tissue. These may appear as more distinct or persistent heat patterns on imaging.

It’s important to understand:
this isn’t a diagnosis.

It’s information about how the tissue may be behaving, which can help guide decisions about monitoring or further investigation.

Many women choose thermography because they want:
• a baseline to compare over time
• a different perspective alongside other screening
• more clarity when something doesn’t feel quite right
