Our footwear may be an easy way to reduce impact on our joints.

Thin, flexible shoes engage our muscles more, resulting in more stress on the muscles (a good thing) and less stress on joints.

Our muscles are designed to absorb loading stress while our joints are designed to move. Arthritis is associated with increased loading stress on the joints, rather than in the muscles.

Sometimes the location of the injury and the cause of the problem are not the same. Research indicates that non-contact lateral ankle sprains can be linked to weak hip muscles.

Our hip muscles create stability for the entire lower body - if they are not strong enough to create a stable foundation, then we are at a higher risk of developing injuries elsewhere.
