I’ve been pretty quiet over here at Solo Respira. But not without good reason. A few weeks back I accepted an offer to join Hamilton Urban Core as their new Cultural Doula. The decision was a bit tough for me to make, having owned my own business for a few years now, but I know I’ve made a good choice. Our new program Obodo Maternal Care will help so many individuals in the Hamilton Community.
I have been pivoting my business to incorporate more ways to help serve the underserved communities for a while now and this move made sense to me. Building projects from the ground up give us a sense of joy and purpose and I can already see the benefits it’s made in the people we support.
If you haven’t seen what Hamilton Urban Core is all about - check them out!
We still have members on the team available for supports so reach out if there is needs.

Today was bring your child to work a postpartum shift. Did you get the memo? Cause neither did I lol. But we had a great time hanging out with some of our besties and spending time together today.

A few months back I was grateful enough to be able to join as a member of the team for Halton Baby Friendly Initiative. I am currently holding the title of Hand Expression kit organizer. I deliver the kits to Midwives offices, OBs, and hospital labour and delivery departments and maternal units.
Halton BFI is a nonprofit community coalition. Halton BFI members are people in our community who support breast-feeding members, live, work or volunteer in Halton region and come from various backgrounds such as parents on maternity leave, stay at home parents healthcare professionals, other professionals. Halton BFI works collaboratively with the community to ensure families have access to good breast-feeding support. We also support local organizations who are interested in becoming baby friendly.

Monday things 🤍
Why I do the things I do as a Doula, Monday edition.
To offer a connection
So parents feel supported and heard
To provide support
To help with transitioning to back to work mode
To hold hands with babies
And today - to spend time outside, getting fresh air and livening the senses after a long winter.
Not all postpartum shift look the same but I’m grateful still after these years to offer the best of me to the best of the family and individuals I support.

Office view of the day….. for the last 3-4 days.
Our baby girl is on the mend but that just means my days have been mom mode and behind the scenes business things. It’s tax season , yuck I know, and a season for growth and development. If you know me , you know I’ve always got bigger plans on the horizon.
Business operation is one of the most rewarding and crazy things I’ve ever had to do in life. Balancing life, kids, work, families, all the things. But days like this is a great reminder of why I chose to own a business- I have that ability to be home when it matters the most, and can still be productive and happy.
Happy Tuesday friends. Let’s make it a good day!

The Association of Ontario Midwives is calling on the Ministry of Health to implement recommendations made by an independent third-party Mediator to treat midwives comparably to other health professions--or risk losing them.

In her report, the Mediator, Beverly Mathers, recommended that midwives receive similar redress provided to physicians, nurses and other public sector workers to make up for the province's unconstitutional compensation restraint legislation and policies.

The report states that "... there is no mathematical equation that puts Ontario's midwives anywhere but further behind economically" because of the Ministry's compensation restraints.

Todays Monday! In case anyone needed the reminder 😉 Kids back to school, people back to work, and for me today it’s a chance to sit and reflect on all the things I want to accomplish and share in 2026. Without sharing too much though, will be adding some workshops and groups in the Milton and Burlington area and really diving into why I chose this work.
Wishing you all a happy Monday and all the best cozy vibes this week!

I’m not one for making New Year’s resolutions. I’m just grateful for the year 2025. I’ve met so many new people, built a community of doulas to help support one another and the community we live in. Supported many births, logged a heck of a lot of postpartum hours with families. It’s been a wonderful year for our family overall. Thank you to all that have supported this endeavour the whole year through. To my friends and family I love you all 🤍 May 2026 bring many blessings to each and every one of you .

A warm welcome to this lovely human Ashley!
A former client of mine, she knows first hand about postpartum mental health and how it can affect the transition to parenthood.

Ashley is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who provides remote talk therapy support across Ontario & other provinces. She uses an eclectic approach, meaning she works with each client to find which therapeutic approaches serve their best needs. Some of her favourite approaches include Somatic approaches, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness and CBT. Ashley understands how difficult transitions can be during pregnancy, birth and postpartum as a twin mom herself. She is passionate about supporting mothers on their holistic wellness journeys. Psychotherapy is usually covered under extended benefits.
Please email: [email protected] for more information!

Please send her an email of your looking for support. Will also send referrals her way through us :)
Looking forward to working with you Ashley!
