June 6, 1944. D-Day
“More than 14,000 Canadian soldiers from the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division and 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade came ashore at Juno Beach on the coast of Normandy, France. They faced concrete bunkers, artillery, machine-gun nests, and some of the best German forces in the theatre.
By the end of the day, they had captured their objectives and advanced farther inland than any Allied division that had landed. But victory came at a devastating price -
359 Canadians were killed on D-Day alone. More than
5,000 would lose their lives during the full Battle of Normandy.
We remember them.”
