Absolutely OBSESSED with this gorgeous clicker we got for my client's healed daith! It's definitely going to be the focal point of this curation we've been working on. 💫 Curation consultations are free! Come start your collection with me - I'd love to do a mermaid-themed setup or some dark witchy stuff, if anyone is interested! I currently have a collection of cute spring pieces in stock for those of you ready for winter to finally stop. 😅

I removed this jewelry from a client's rook this morning. She had been pierced with this piece several months ago and could not remove it on her own. The material used to make this jewelry is not body safe, not intended for long-term wear, and not appropriate for a fresh piercing.
In this instance, low-quality metals had been plated with a shiny coating which flaked off (these flakes can cause injury as well as potentially get into the fistula of a healed piercing - or open wound of a fresh piercing - causing further complications). The metals underneath then oxidized. Oxidization of brass occurs because it is primarily made of of copper and zinc and when copper reacts with moisture, sweat or natural acids on the skin, it can form copper salts. These salts have a greenish color, which can transfer to skin. The client's irritated skin was then oozing discharge, which collected on the decorative part of the jewelry, creating a place for bacteria to proliferate. On top of that, this jewelry is externally threaded, meaning the end of the bar has threads like a screw which fit into a hole in the bead to secure it. External threads can cause injury to tissue, as well as harbour bacteria.
PROTECT YOURSELF! DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Ask your piercer what their jewelry is made of, ask to see certificates that confirm the composition and origin of metals used. ASTM F136 or the G23 European equivalent for implant-grade titanium or surgical steel is ideal. Certificates should have a number you can use to verify validity with the issuing authority. You can visit safepiercing.org to learn more about current safety standards within the piercing industry. (Lynn Loheide also has a great blog where you can find all sorts of information on how to find a good piercer, how to recognize problems with piercings before they become disasters, and more!)
Of course, you are also welcome to contact me directly to ask questions.
Stay safe out there!

Once upon a time, I spent like 45 minutes working with a client to get the perfect placement for her unique anatomy. Her septum and philtrum were aligned in such a way that we needed to make sure the labret piercing would blend in with the lines of symmetry that the eye naturally follows, instead of drawing the gaze off track and making her features appear more uneven.
That's the longest I've spent working on placement and I absolutely did not mind doing it at all. I love working with unique anatomy as it requires more critical thinking and creativity on my part.

Above all, I want my clients to love their piercings. This is why I draw on you first, explain why I've picked that spot, and remind you that it is just my suggestion. I want you to understand how a piercing will work with your anatomy, I want you to know that you can tell me "Can we move it a little and see how that looks?", I want to work with you to get a piercing you love instead of just telling you "That's where it goes." - because it's your body, it's unique, and piercings are not "one fits all".
45 minutes of drawing, discussing, erasing, drawing again, was absolutely worth the client satisfaction.
I'm not here to tell you how it's going to be, I'm here to help you decide how it's going to be.
Never feel bad about making your own descisions for your own body!
