🇨🇦 Hello Veterans! Did you know the Veterans Independence Program (VIP) may cover much more than you realize?
I wanted to share some information because many Veterans I speak with aren’t always aware of the different supports they may be eligible for through Veterans Affairs Canada’s Veterans Independence Program (VIP).
Depending on your individual eligibility and assessed needs, VIP may provide funding toward:
🏠 Home Adaptations
Modifications to your principal residence that help you safely remain independent at home and carry out everyday activities.
🧹 Housekeeping Services
This can include assistance with cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, errands and other household tasks. Eligible Veterans may receive funding toward these services.
🌿 Grounds Maintenance
Funding may help with things such as lawn mowing, snow and ice removal, leaf removal and other necessary outdoor maintenance.
🍽️ Access to Nutrition
Support may be available to help you access meals, including services such as meal delivery. Think programs such as Meals on Wheels or other ways of getting prepared meals delivered to your home.
👩⚕️ Professional Health & Support Services
Depending on your needs, funding may be available for services such as nursing care, occupational therapy, assessments and other professional health supports.
❤️ Personal Care
Assistance with personal care and activities of daily living may also be available, including support provided by a personal support worker or other appropriate care provider.
🏥 Ambulatory Health Care
This may include assessments, diagnostic services, activities and transportation associated with eligible ambulatory health services. An example could include certain adult day programs or community-based health services.
🚗 Transportation Services
Transportation may be approved to help Veterans maintain their independence and community connections. This can include transportation to approved social or community activities.
🛏️ Intermediate / Long-Term Care
When remaining independently at home is no longer practical, eligible Veterans may qualify for financial assistance toward care in an approved community facility.
⭐ The important part: If you are already receiving VIP benefits, don’t assume that the services you currently receive are the only services you may qualify for. Your needs can change over time.
If you’re finding it harder to maintain your home, prepare meals, get out into the community, manage personal care or safely remain independent, it may be worth contacting Veterans Affairs and asking whether your VIP benefit arrangement should be reviewed.
