Six hospital partners. One regional cancer system. One shared goal: better cancer care, closer to home. 💙

This summer, the Central East Regional Cancer Program hit the road! 🚗

We visited all six of our hospital partners across the region to celebrate what we have achieved together, identify new opportunities, and strengthen the partnerships that help deliver high-quality cancer care closer to home.

Working together, and with the guidance of Ontario Health – Cancer Care Ontario, our regional cancer system continues to improve access to screening, diagnosis and cancer care for people across Central East Ontario.

Some highlights from the past year include:
⭐ Haliburton Highlands Health Services expanded both lung and breast cancer screening services, helping more people access screening closer to home.
⭐ Ross Memorial Hospital became our region’s first expansion site for lung cancer screening.
⭐ Campbellford Memorial Hospital achieved the best colonoscopy wait-time performance in the Central East region.
⭐ Lakeridge Health achieved top performance in Ontario for referral-to-consult wait times for patients seeing an oncologist.
⭐ Northumberland Hills Hospital continued to exceed provincial targets for the time from an abnormal mammogram to a breast cancer diagnosis.
⭐ Peterborough Regional Health Centre consistently achieved provincial targets for colonoscopy wait times.

Behind every one of these achievements are dedicated healthcare teams working to make cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment more accessible and timely for the people we serve.

Thank you to all six of our hospital partners for your incredible work and your commitment to providing exceptional cancer care across our region. Together, we are building a stronger cancer system for our communities. 💙

Check the Facts. Not the Myths. ✅

When it comes to colorectal cancer screening, misinformation can stop people from getting tested.

We are busting common misconceptions about colorectal cancer screening and sharing the truth about who should get screened, when to start, and why early detection matters.

Take a moment to learn the facts, share this post with someone you care about, and help us replace myths with knowledge.

Let us know if there are any other common myths or questions that we should clarify!

✔️ If you're 45–74 and at average risk, regular colorectal cancer screening with a FIT kit can detect signs of cancer early, leading to best possible outcomes.
