Have your teeth shifted after braces or Invisalign? Your tongue may be part of the reason.
Tongue thrust is a muscle pattern where the tongue presses forward against or between the teeth during swallowing, speaking or at rest. Over hundreds of swallows each day, that repeated pressure can contribute to:
• Orthodontic relapse
• An open bite or spacing
• A lisp or unclear speech
• Jaw fatigue
• An open-mouth resting posture
Braces move the teeth—but they do not retrain the swallowing pattern behind them.
