Spring is here! People are enjoying lively streets, open patios, and friendly strolls. While that's great, it's important to remember that going out isn't always so easy for everyone. Uneven sidewalks, a lack of clear access, and transportation can be obstacles for people with . And it is not just environments that create barriers – systems and attitudes can also prevent full participation.
Accessibility should not be an afterthought. Improving how people move through spaces and connect with each other is only the first step. Accessibility benefits everyone, not just those with disabilities. Think about it.

COVID can have lasting impacts. The best way to avoid is to not contract this virus. Stay safe.

COVID is not “just a cold.” Even mild or asymptomatic infections can cause lasting health effects, damaging blood vessels and organs, affecting the brain, and weakening the immune system. Reduce possible harm by avoiding infection and reinfection — preventing COVID is possible through measures such as masking, ventilation, testing and vaccination.

From all of us at Ability First Ottawa, we send you our warmest wishes for a holiday season that brings you special moments and happy memories.
This holiday season, as we reflect on the past year, we feel profound gratitude for the moments we’ve shared, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the calling that binds us together. May the coming year bring us new reasons to smile, fresh dreams to chase, and countless blessings to celebrate.
As we gather with friends and family, and feel the warmth and joy of the season, let’s not forget about those who are facing difficulties or the isolation that this season can bring. A small gesture or a kind word goes a long way.
Here’s to a bright, hopeful, and inspiring new year — one we’ll continue to shape together.

Christina Ranieri, Founder and President, and members of the board of Ability First Ottawa.
