Longevity in any sport comes at a price.

It's not about working harder.

It's about being strategic and efficient with;
🥕 Nutrition
💧Hydration
😴 Sleep
🧪 Lab testing and information
🔴 Hormones
🤩 Recovery

And of course, and having great friends and teammates to share incredible memories, sweat and tears of effort, wins and losses.

Thank you Jim Robinson for capturing this moment.

The longer you wait, the harder it will be -and more frustrated you’ll feel.

🚶🏼‍♀️Start your walking habit.

😍Start tracking your period and how you feel ALL month. Had a hysterectomy? You still have fluctuating hormones, just no period. So track.

😌Start your calm by meditating.

💦Start drinking enough water daily.

🤸‍♀️Start foam rolling or stretching.

💕Start taking care of YOU.

The Moment - focused and putting all the training into action.

The pics of playing international sport - at any age - can look great. Some may say even flex 💪

But visibility isn't vanity, it's what happens when preparation meets the moment.

So celebrate your action, your great moments in sport and training.

I'm #13 because I dislocated my patella in 2013 Nationals.

This is why I picked the number.

To remind me:
💪 I can grow stronger
💩 Stuff happens in sport
👹 My skill, my effort, my attitude define how I play. Not a number. Not an injury. Not bad luck.

It's been 13 years since that injury and I've since played:
🇨🇦 Team Canada x2
🌎 Club World champions X3
🏅 More tournaments than I can count.

So no, 13 isn't bad luck.
It's whole lots kicking ass. 😉

As a masters (actually grandmasters) athlete I have to focus my training:

Speed and agility disappear with age, only if you don't train them!

But the reality is that speed, power, coordination, and athleticism don't simply vanish because of a number on a birthday cake.

👉They decline when we stop challenging them.

The body adapts to the demands we place on it.

🤩This is your reminder that athleticism isn't reserved for the young.

Age, work-life balance, mental load, menstrual cycle phase may change the way we train, but it doesn't have to define what we're capable of.

Keep moving. Keep challenging yourself. Keep proving that your best years of performance aren't necessarily behind you. ⚡🏃‍♀️

Menstrual hormones affect every part of us.

At ovulation, the estrogen peak:
👉 Increases ligament laxity
👉Reduces fibroblast proliferation leading to less collagen production

End result?
😬Increased ACL and knee injuries.

What to do about it?
Train for it.

🦵Glute activation exercices
🦵Single-leg and stability work
🦵Be focused and deliberate about what you do. Don't do the work "just to get it over with".

I want to play competitive sport for as long as I can.
And this is part of how I'm going to do it!

International Women's Day is time to celebrate 🎊 but let's not forget we still have lots to work on to get equity for women's rights and opportunities.

I was interviewed by Carleton University's journalism students for their radio podcast Midweek. We chatted about how to destigmatize menopause.

Check it out
And let's continue the - very much needed- conversation.

ACL injuries in female athletes aren't random.

Hormones influence ligament stiffness, muscle function and joint stability.

Around ovulation there's an estrogen spike that affects joint, muscle and stability.

While this estrogen spike can also improve energy for some athletes, there's also reduced joint stability.

The solution?

In the moment?
💪Focused glute activation

▶️Big picture?
More research
More awareness
Smarter training

We know this is an issue in sport. Now it's time to an amplify awareness and create change to protect our female athletes.
