For many years, dental care has focused on eliminating harmful bacteria. But what if the key to preventing caries is helping the right bacteria thrive?

A research discovery by Dr. Céline Lévesque and Dr. Prasanna Neelakantan, identifying a beneficial bacterium that can suppress cavity-causing microbes, is part of a shifting conversation that is moving the focus from eradication of bacteria to restoring balance within the oral microbiome.
