False health information can lead people to delay necessary care, reject proven treatments and adopt harmful practices. Protecting patients requires a coordinated response.

The World Medical Association has adopted a new global policy to combat false health information, led by the CMA and France’s Conseil National de l’Ordre des Médecins (CNOM).

The policy's recommendations include:
☑️ Developing national strategies to reduce the spread and harms of false health information.
☑️ Engaging social media platforms to strengthen accountability and transparency and remove harmful content.
☑️ Exploring appropriate disciplinary action against non-compliant offenders.

It also offers guidance to help physicians navigate false health information with patients. Physicians play a vital role in helping patients make informed decisions. They also need broader action from governments and technology companies to address false health information at its source.

How do we support physicians in a profession that constantly demands more of them?

That was the primary question on the agenda at last week’s International Conference on Physician Health, held in London, UK.

Co-hosted by the British Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Association and the American Medical Association, brought together over 650 physician leaders, researchers and health advocates from around the world to connect with one another, explore shared challenges between different health systems, and strengthen physician wellness to ensure better care for patients everywhere.

Today, we are honoured to announce the release of the new National Standard of Canada for Cultural Safety and Humility.

This standard builds on the British Columbia Cultural Safety and Humility standard, developed in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) in BC. The standard applies to all health and social service organizations.

The National Standard of Canada for Cultural Safety and Humility is the result of a national collaboration led by the TC036 Cultural Safety and Humility Technical Committee and its co-chairs, Dr. Margo Greenwood and Marilee Nowgesic, guided by Elder Darlene McIntosh. This standard was produced with funding and support from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation and Indigenous Services Canada. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to the development of this standard.

It's today! Health professionals across the country are taking action for the second-ever National Day of Action on Planetary Health.

The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment alongside major health organizations including the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) and others, are coordinating more than 30 in-person and virtual events around the country, including educational and training activities, tree-planting events, cycling and more.

We are also sending an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney calling for stronger action to protect health by preventing environmental harm.

Today is the second annual National Day of Action on Planetary Health. In support of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), the CMA is calling on the federal government to take a coordinated, national approach to protect .
