We provide healthcare to the vulnerable community who otherwise lack it, preventing downstream health issues and emergency room visits.

Through our partnership with Ottawa Inner City Health, our caring donors, and teams of compassionate volunteer doctors and healthcare professionals, our DYMON Health Clinic provided:

- 3,733 primary care patient consults
- 650 dental appointments
- 264 family medicine consults
- 97 ophthalmology appointments
- 490 chiropractic appointments

And much more over the past year.

We are incredibly grateful to receive a $20 000.00 grant from an anonymous donor through the Ottawa Community Foundation. 100% of this donation will be directed to our Peer to Staff: Building Sustainable Peer Workforce Pathways in Ottawa Project.

We believe deeply in the value of lived experience and in creating meaningful pathways for peers to turn their lived experience into opportunities for learning, professional development, and employment. Investing in peers means investing in people, building capacity, and creating a stronger and more sustainable workforce.

We are excited about what this funding will make possible. Thank you to the Ottawa Community Foundation and the generous anonymous fund for believing in this work and helping us build more opportunities for peers to thrive.

Today is World Homelessness Day 💙 A day to raise awareness about homelessness and the need for safe housing, accessible healthcare, and support for people in our community.

On Friday, October 2, OICH was pleased to welcome a delegation from the Association of Public Services and Enterprises Austria. It was a wonderful opportunity to share more about our clients and the services we provide.

On a cool, sunny October morning, our ragtag team of staff, friends and family gathered for the annual Social and Community Services softball tournament at the RA Centre.

Our division included Centretown CHC | CSC du Centre-ville, The Ottawa Mission, John Howard Society of Ottawa and Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa / Bureau des services à la jeunesse. They came to win. We came to have fun and improve on last year (and boy, did we ever achieve our goal!)

Our shirts say it all: Healthcare. Harm Reduction. Hope (we hit the ball!) We had 28 RBIs (we hit the ball a LOT!).

Congratulations to the team from the City of Ottawa on winning the tournament. We’re already looking forward to even more fun next year. And next year: “More cow bell!”

Last week, several OICH team members attended the International Street Medicine Symposium, proudly representing the innovative and client-centered work happening across our organization. Program Peer Mary delivered a powerful peer-led presentation, dubbed “Mary’s Way,” which highlighted the impact of lived experience in care delivery. Program Peer Theresa presented a poster "Emerging Trends and Distinct Vulnerabilities for Women, Ethnic Minorities and the LGBTQIA2S Community", while Nurse Coordinator Brianna and Dr. Hatcher also represented OICH throughout the conference.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. There was tremendous interest in peer-led approaches, and many participants were deeply impressed by the programs and services OICH offers. Congratulations to the team for showcasing OICH’s leadership in street medicine and peer-led care on an international stage!

On Wednesday, OICH Leadership was honoured to attend the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation ceremony on Parliament Hill.

It was a privilege to join residential school Survivors, Indigenous leaders and dignitaries at this national gathering to honour the thousands of lives lost and the generations profoundly impacted by the residential school system.

Many OICH clients are among those Survivors, as well as their children and grandchildren. Our staff provide health care and social supports through culturally appropriate care, including working with peers, elders and other leaders in our community.

Today is National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters. This day is dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada's Residential School System.

Nancy Singoorie joined OICH in May 2026 in the role of Program Peer - Inuk Cultural and Spiritual Worker. Nancy's role includes leading cultural activities such as crafting and storytelling with indigenous residents.

We asked Nancy to tell us about herself:

“I am from Pond Inlet Nunavut and came to the city Ottawa in 1993 after my flight attendant career with First Air airline of the north. I settled in Quebec side and had a family of four children. In 2005 I moved to Montreal and worked as an interpreter for the Module Du Nord-Nunavik Inuit patience. Then I moved to Ottawa in 2012 April 19th. I worked in various places as an interpreter and then I changed career and studied Business Administration to get into Human Resources but instead landed where I am today in harm reduction that I enjoy so much.”

Nancy also coordinates the monthly Country Food feasts with the Ottawa Mission and within Units. Earlier this year, Nancy helped educate partner staff and volunteers on the history of and the traditional preparation of Caribou Soup, known as “Uujuq” (OO-yook or OO-jook). This was recently shared on our social media!

Crafting and story telling with residents are some of the best opportunities to gift culture and reconnection to the Inuit community. We are grateful to Nancy for the invaluable work that she does.

While fall might have just started, winter is right around the corner! ❄️

We always welcome donations of new or gently used supplies at our office. We’re currently looking for running shoes, coats, hot paws, boots, hats, gloves, and all sorts of other winter supplies.

Thank you for helping us keep our community warm and prepared for the winter months!
