📣 CMTF is Looking for Dietitians to Expand SGA Training Across Canada!

🔹 CMTF is seeking enthusiastic Registered Dietitians teams that:
✅ Have 5–8 RDs interested in being trained on hands-on SGA
✅ Have funding available to cover trainer honoraria and travel expenses
✅ Have a local lead to coordinate the training with CMTF

🔹 We are also looking for experienced RDs to become SGA Trainers who:
✅ Have at least 2 yrs experience conducting or teaching SGA.
✅ Are confident mentoring and coaching others on SGA.
✅ Are willing to complete CMTF's SGA Trainer Program.
✅ Are available to travel to training sites (preferably within their region).
✅ Can complete required confidentiality, other documentation requested by the host site

Government of Canada Makes Important Investments in Food Security!

On June 11, Prime Minister Mark Carney launched Canada's first-ever National Food Security Strategy, committing $3.2 billion over the next 10 years to increase access to local, nutritious, and affordable food.

On June 19, the Honorable Heath Macdonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced a new $20-million Local Food Infrastructure Fund: Community Support Stream to support food banks and other national, regional, and local organizations to distribute nutritious food to families.

While food insecurity is receiving much-needed attention, malnutrition must also be recognized as a national health priority. Malnutrition in healthcare settings is estimated to cost our healthcare system up to $2 billion annually and is associated with poor health outcomes for Canadians.

We urge the honorable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health and Health Canada | Santé Canada to include malnutrition within their mandate and public health priorities to improve the health and well-being of Canadians and reduce pressure on our healthcare system.

New Malnutrition Coding Direction from Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI)!

CMTF has been working with CIHI to identify the need to strengthen data around malnutrition diagnosis and we are pleased to share that:

➡️ Effective April 1, 2026, CIHI is mandating the assignment of a code for a documented diagnosis of malnutrition classified within the block E40–E46, regardless of significance. All available documentation, including non-physician documentation, may be used for code assignment.

This new coding direction applies to all hospital and ambulatory care discharges submitted to the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS).
