Sometimes anxiety is the smoke, not the fire.

You've spent years looking for the right treatment combination for your anxiety. You've switched therapists, changed medication, adjusted dosages, cleaned up your diet, joined a gym, tried mediation...

Why doesn't anything seem to work?

Because sometimes, anxiety isn't the root cause of the issue. It's a sign of something deeper.

In this week's episode of the podcast, Katrin unpacks why anxiety, burnout, and exhaustion are often co-morbid symptoms β€” the after-effects of something deeper that's never been named. Sometimes that's undiagnosed ADHD. Sometimes it's hormonal. Either way, treating the smoke without finding the fire rarely puts it out for good.

A later-in-life ADHD diagnosis is a lot to process.

The retrospective that follows is often as painful as it is liberating. Looking back at your life through the lens of ADHD can bring up a mix of positive and negative feelings: validation and bitterness, self-compassion and resentment, relief and grief.

In this week's episode, host and Registered Psychotherapist, Katrin Aslani shares her first-hand experience of being diagnosed with ADHD, along with her clinical perspective on what it means to work WITH your brain, not against it.

For many women, ADHD is more than just a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Research has shown that women with ADHD are more likely to experience severe perimenopausal symptoms, postpartum depression and anxiety and PMDD than women without ADHD.

They also experience higher rates of endometriosis and PCOS.

For women whose symptoms have been dismissed or misdiagnosed, ADHD can be the root cause of burnout, or masked with antidepressants and anxiety meds.

In episode 1 of the podcast, host and clinical psychotherapist, Katrin Aslani shares her first-hand experience with ADHD, explains why medication alone often isn't enough, and what an integrative, root-cause approach to treatment can look like instead.
