Scientists Get Names Wrong Too! 😂🌿

Remember *vitamins*? When I was in high school, I learned that the name actually came from vita” (life) + “amine” — because scientists originally thought these newly discovered substances were amines. They later discovered that assumption wasn't quite right… but the name stuck!

Well, Zumbani has a rather interesting naming story of its own.

Its scientific name is Lippia javanica*. “Lippia” honours French physician and botanist Augustin Lippi, while “javanica” reflects an old assumption that this plant was associated with Java because of its citrus and tropical flavor.

The irony? Zumbani is African. 🌍

So, in a way, we've got a plant from Africa carrying a name partly shaped by European history and an assumption about where it came from.

And that got me thinking: how many fascinating stories are hiding behind the scientific names we casually throw around?

Sometimes even a name has a story worth discovering. 🌿

(But There’s Hope!)

Due to the new U.S. tariff changes, small purchases now fall under the de minimis rule — which means a 35% tariff may apply to Jungle Tea orders shipped to the United States. We know this isn’t great news, and we’re just as disappointed.

But we’re not giving up. 🌱
We’ll be working hard to offset these extra costs through discounts, promotions, bundle deals, and anything else we can do to keep prices fair. And we’re hopeful this situation will improve in the future.
