I never imagined owning a dog...didn't grow up with dogs, never wanted a dog...I used to be grossed out by dog p**p 💩 and dog breath 🤣 .
My middle child had been begging us for years. We cracked and brought home Lily🐾 right before Christmas.
The last few weeks has been INTENSE with her. She's been a handful!!! Not only was she thrown off schedule from March break (spring break) - she's going through what I've been told by other dog owners "the toddler phase" where she's testing limits and super crazy when she's overtired.
I caught myself being negative many times this week. Saying things to my husband like, "I didn't SIGN UP for this"...or "I hate this phase" or "I can't stand the dog"...
He said,
"𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠, 𝚜𝚑𝚎'𝚜 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚊 𝚙𝚞𝚙𝚙𝚢 𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚕𝚕. 𝙸𝚝'𝚜 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚊 𝚙𝚑𝚊𝚜𝚎. 𝙲𝚊𝚗 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚛𝚢 𝚝𝚘 𝚋𝚎 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚗 𝚗𝚎𝚐𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎? 𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚔𝚒𝚍𝚜...𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞'𝚛𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚗𝚎𝚐𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚍𝚘𝚐".
😏 I had to swallow my ego... HARD.
Because he is right. We made a choice, and I can either be negative or accept and embrace that this is temporary and just a phase, and be a bit more positive with my energy. That energy spreads 💓 ...to my family, to my puppy...even my own mind.
The last 2 days I've tried to catch myself when I get annoyed, and I intentionally remind myself that she's a "toddler" and I come at it with 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕕𝕟𝕖𝕤𝕤, rather than annoyance and irritation.
It's been SO much more pleasant. She's still testing limits and sometimes so crazy with "zoomies"...but 𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮.
👎🏼 Negative energy is draining. We can be mad, irritated or annoyed, but catching ourselves, feeling it for a moment, then make a choice to move forward & shift to positive, is truly the key to our own happiness, health, and well-being.
If this resonates with you at all...I'd love to know...is there something you are feeling negative about or resistant...
& do you think you can shift your energy about it 😁 ?
