*SM does not = a professional relationship* I offer my clinical services as an experienced registered clinical health psychologist through Ottawa River Psychology/Ottawa River Integrative Mental Health, a group of registered health care professionals specializing in the

family of Third Wave clinical health psychology and evidence-informed psychotherapies. Third Wave approaches in psychology and psychotherapy are grounded in contextual behavioural science, and take a process oriented perspective on suffering, emphasizing cultivation of psychological flexibility and de-identification of one's self from symptoms concomitant with a re-orientation towards processes that build vitality and committed actions towards values-based living. The Third Wave of psychology and psychotherapy is a big conceptual umbrella, and includes mindfulness and compassion-based interventions such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Process-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy among others. I am a dedicated Buddhist practitioner with experience working with high performance athletes, military, front line responders and health care workers particularly physicians. I bring a Trauma Sensitive and Somatic emphasis to sessions integrating Third Wave processes from CBT, DBT, ERP, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Systems Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Integrated CBT, and Somatic Experiencing/Somatic IFS as indicated, to co-create an individualized plan for developing well-being and growth with you.

Daily I witness how profoundly touch deprived people have become. We are in a touch desert in our contemporary hyper-connected (through devices) world. Why do we wonder that so many feel so isolated and lonely within our communities? Our bodies are designed  for human connection. We evolved to belong to each other. We inter-are.
After decades in the therapy room I can report that humans in 2026 are TOuCH STARVED.

I DO 💯agree with the regulatory colleges in health professions that touch used for exploitation of power is harmful and  wrong. So do we avoid all touch in the health professions?

How about 🙌skillful, professional, planned touch not for bodywork or massage but for regulation and the support of natural capacities for healing?

I am trained as a scientist practitioner so  🙌 I had to find out

🙌I spent three years doing Somatic Experiencing training 🙌🙌🙌and after that one year training and studying with 🙌Dr Kathy Kain 👑👑👑the acknowledged Touch Skills Queen in the world of somatic therapies.👸👸👸🙏🙏🙏

🙌There is now no question in my mind.  Peer reviewed research and four years of training with the best somatic touch skills practitioners confirmed it:

🙌skillful touch and
🙌safe, supportive and attuned human connection heal.

🙌Here is some of the research on touch:
In one meta-analysis on touch and healing, researchers examined 137 studies involving nearly 13000 people.
🙌🙌🙌Attuned human touch produced measurable health and mental health results. 😊🙌🙌🙌
☀️Anxiety decreased.
☀️Depression decreased
☀️Pain decreased
☀️Cortisol dropped by 31 percent.
☀️ The body produced more serotonin with greater touch exposure.

And

☀️Robots cannot do it for us.🙌Human touch 🙌produced effects that robot touch or object touch could not replicate. 🙌🙌🙌

At a retreat recently we were asked to reflect on who we needed to realize our dreams for future generations.

My reflection partner and I agreed. We didn’t need to become someone else. We needed to let ourselves become more of who we are in our deepest Self energy (my words not hers-apologies if I am not capturing it completely dear friend!)

Ultimately realization is letting go of who you had to be, we’re expected to be, we’re rewarded for, or frightened into being, and manifesting your being.

Fly that magnificent weird flag. It is what the world needs from you.

The world already has a lot of ‘successful’ people. It needs more people who are awake and alive.

As people, things, experiences move through our lives and depart we may feel grief. We may even grieve when we let go of toxic relationships, habits or burdens from the past. Not everything we lose is a loss. Sometimes we needed to let go to be ready to grow into something greater. Letting go is liberation. Be curious about what is coming to you that is new, that you have never experienced before. Be grateful for what you have lost; it prepared the space for new realization.
