What sets us apart?

At EEPS, We are 3 generations in the first responder family while in the clinical world of mental health.

We experience both worlds simultaneously.

We perceive what cannot be unseen and what is never seen by the public.

We are trained in this world, yet our lived experiences of living in the 911 world have made us unique from most clinics, centres and clinicians.

Trust is obsolete when our first responders are injured. When trust is no longer present, we seek help from those who understand, rather than overexplaining things only first responder families/spouses comprehend.

We acknowledge that we may not be suitable for every first responder, but we understand this aspect of being in this community. From first responder, to spouse to family, we just get it! We empower through the collaborative, collective therapeutic model!

We’re re-introducing our sister agency, Empowering First Responders & Families Peer Support© , a space for first responder spouses, family members, and first responders themselves. This space continues to aim to ensure everyone involved fully gets to comprehend the injury , the healing , and the growth before, during and long after the career.

It’s Monday Mental Health Check-In! As we’ve been using EMDR as our primary modality for first responders and PSP members, sharing a friendly reminder that we often provide after activation stages.

It’s common to experience the following sensations:

- Dizziness
- Heavy feelings
- Increased brain fog
- Body tingling

These sensations can occur within the hour after your EMDR session or even days later.

Remember, to be kind to yourself.

It’s Monday Mental Health Check In! June is , emphasizing the profound identity changes PTSD(PTSI) causes, often leading to a permanent loss of self.

Moral injury is the damage to one’s conscience or moral compass when an individual perpetrates, witnesses, or fails to prevent acts that transgress their own moral beliefs, values or ethical codes of conduct.

So, how do we deal or manage both the mental and moral injuries?

Outside of EMDR, One of many trauma based therapy is called ,TrIGR.

Trauma-Informed Guilt Reduction Therapy (TrIGR), the Non-Adaptive Guilt and Shame (NAGS) model that underlies TrIGR, and the research supporting the use of TrIGR to treat the guilt and shame components of moral injury. TriGR is a six-session individual psychotherapy that helps clients consider their role in the traumatic event and find constructive ways to express important values, so that they no longer need to express values by suffering through guilt and shame.

This form of therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s an alternative to popular CBT therapy, particularly for PTSD and moral injuries.
