I’ve been competing a LONG time. This is what helps me:

1️⃣ Quiet time with my horse while I braid

This is a form of meditation for me. I put my headphones in and a playlist on. This is a non negotiable for me. It gives me time alone with my horse.

2️⃣ Yoga before I ride and throughout the day

Usually done in a tack stall, or in front of my stall.
I don’t do a full pracrice, I wil do targeted poses to help release tension in my shoulders, hips and lower back and activate my core. This takes me maybe 10 minutes.
I do this a few times to keep me supple but also to keep me calm.

3️⃣ Visualization

This a powerful for athletes. Don’t underestimate it! Visualizing my test, even mentally prepping where I will ride my half halts, transitions and picturing how it feels in my body.

Bonus tip for dressage riders :
Memorize your tests even if you have a caller!

What are some of your show day rituals?

Save this for after your next ride.

Riding places a lot of demand on the body, especially through the hips, lower back, legs and shoulders. Over time, tension can build without riders even realizing it.

That tension doesn’t just affect how you feel after riding. It can affect:

💠 your position
💠 your ability to follow movement
💠 your balance
💠 your breathing
💠 and ultimately your connection with the horse

This brand new post-ride class was designed to help you:
✔️ release tension
✔️ improve mobility
✔️ recover better

Mental health isn’t something our industry talks about much. We’ll obsess over our horse’s bodywork, their feed, their emotional state. We’re not as good at turning that same attention on ourselves.

⚠️ And we should be.

Anxiety before a show, the spiral after a bad test or training ride, the way stress quietly lives in your body and changes how you ride. It affects everything.

Your nervous system is part of your performance.

I wrote about this a few weeks ago and it started a conversation I didn’t expect.

Your emotional state is tied to your performance.

Adding yoga to your existing program will help you:

✅ regulate your nervous system

✅ help prevent injury

✅ increase your body awareness

Yoga alongside strength training will help you so much in not only your riding but also help you feel better overall.

If you’re looking for somewhere to start, I offer a free week trial to my classes.

A lot of us use our core without really thinking about it. But when you get intentional about it, your transitions become that much better.

💡Think hind leg, into your core, into your hand. That connection is what creates a clear upward transition.

✅ Try this next time you ride:
Breathe in, engage through your core muscles, ask for the transition, then soften through your lower back as you go.

Which transition is hardest for you to keep your body quiet through?
