Let’s talk about our nervous systems…
I’ve been thinking a lot about how many of us are living in fight-or-flight without even realizing it.
Always scanning.
Always watching.
Always waiting for the next blow.
And honestly, I feel like the world we’re living in right now is programmed to keep us stuck here…
I won’t go too deeply into my beliefs around this, because I know not everyone will agree with me…and that’s okay. ❤️
But look around.
The constant rise in prices.
The feeling that everything is changing so quickly.
Our communities becoming more crowded.
The feeling of losing pieces of the identities and ways of life we’ve always known.
The constant stream of fear, conflict, bad news and uncertainty being put in front of us every single day. (I don’t even follow the news and somehow the information still comes to me)
It feels like there’s always something new coming at us.
And when your nervous system is constantly being given reasons to stay alert, to stay stuck in fight or flight, it can become really difficult to switch off. (part of the master plan…I’ll leave it there). lol 😉
I know this personally.
Living in the city was hard for me. I’m a country girl through and through, (with adhd) I prefer dirt and trees over people and cement any day, living here, I realized how much my body was constantly taking in. It’s like the world never shuts off here.
For a long time, I was stuck back in fight or flight…
My body was trying to protect me.
And when I was really struggling, I snapped a bit on my guides lol. I told them to fu***ng help me! Show me what to do!! (Yes I speak to them this way, I was overstimulated and freaking out) - they won’t accept fake lol. They know us. So just be real. Of course they came through and introduced me to something incredibly simple…
🦋 The Butterfly Hug.
Just 1 - 3 minutes of gentle bilateral stimulation can give you a moment to slow down, come back into your body and create a little more space between you and everything happening around you.
How do you know it’s working…
A deep belly breath.
A big yawn.
Your shoulders dropping.
Your jaw relaxing.
That moment where you think…
“Okay. I’m back.”
And here’s why I think regulating our nervous system is so important.
When we are regulated, we can think more clearly.
We aren’t simply reacting from fear, urgency or survival mode.
We have more space to pause.
To question.
To listen to ourselves.
To recognize what actually feels right for us instead of automatically responding to whatever is happening around us.
We can make decisions with more ease.
We can see situations from different perspectives. “Our OWN perspectives”
We can listen to our intuition while also using our own judgment and discernment.
We are able to think for ourselves.
It doesn’t mean we’re automatically going to start to agree with each other…
It means we’re making our choices from a place of greater clarity rather than constantly being driven by fear.
We may not be able to control everything happening in the world around us.
But we can control how we feel and the choices WE make for ourselves
And, getting out of fight-or-flight is the first step toward finding your way back to your own thoughts…🦋🌿
How is your nervous system feeling lately?
Are you always scanning, stuck in what’s next!??
Give this a shot! See what happens ❤️
