This is homeopathy’s moment of truth in America.

After years of trying to work with the FDA — two formal petitions, countless meetings, hundreds of thousands of comments from the public, and even letters from members of Congress — the agency has made its position clear:
If we want homeopathic medicines regulated differently, we must get Congress to pass a law.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Why it matters: Without a legal pathway, we face the drip, drip, drip of homeopathic products disappearing from the market — making it harder and harder to practice or use homeopathy in America. This isn’t hypothetical. Certain remedies are already gone. More will disappear unless we act.

Without this legislation, we’ll keep losing access to homeopathic medicines. Already, homeopathic eye drops are gone. We simply can’t let this continue..
Our goal is to send 90K comments to the Senate by Monday, June 156th letting them know how important it is to us to protect homeopathy!

Another instructive case from the patient files of Adolph Lippe MD...

"Mrs. C., aged 35 years, mother of four children, the youngest four years of age, had been suffering for more than three years before coming under my care, in May, 1862.

Mrs. C. is emaciated and of nervous temperament. For more than three years she had not menstruated; she had frequent attacks of violent colic almost always at night, between two and four o’clock A.M. Those attacks came on at irregular intervals from three to ten days and were followed at times by vomiting of food or mucus, and, if this vomiting did not take place, by a severe headache the next morning. The day after such an attack, she would feel very weak in body and mind, unable to fix her attention on any subject, and losing herself in the street because she could not know where she was; when she thus spoke, she could not find the right words. The pulse was small and feeble. Mrs. C. had had all sorts of treatment, she had found some palliatives at times, but the disease always returned more violent when the palliatives ceased to relieve.

She took, on the 25th day of May, one dose of Kali carbonicum 200 (Lehmann). The first night after taking the medicine she had a very severe attack lasting one hour, but she did not suffer so much during the day, the following night she had another attack, less violent then the first night and another still lighter attack came on the following night; all at the same hour, three o’clock A.M. The repetition of attacks in this manner had never taken place before. The patient improved afterwards, and for some weeks considerable pain in the small of the back, menstruation returned, and she remained well since."

When one examines the various existing therapeutic outcome reports from the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918-19, no clear or significant confounding factor seems to emerge, and the consistency of the results obtained by homeopathy and allopathy is confirmed regardless of the place, population, circumstance, or wave of the epidemic.

This consistency is very clear for anyone perusing the homeopathic literature as expressed in 1920 by Dr. Crawford Green, a pediatrician from Troy, N.Y., “From every corner of our great country, wherever homeopathy is practiced and wherever there is opportunity for the exact study of comparative statistics, there comes indisputable testimony of the wonderful efficacy of homeopathy. Parallel groups of cases everywhere show a homeopathic mortality almost negligible when compared with any other system of therapy.”

Interesting research from Europe... "A Chromatographic Test Reveals Homeopathic Preparations Affect Human Blood In Vitro."

An ascending paper chromatography test, known as the Kaelin blood test, was adapted to investigate the effects of homeopathic preparations on human blood in vitro with an emphasis on possible inter-individual differences in response rate.

Methods
Thirteen patients to whom homeopathic remedies had been prescribed were enrolled in the study; EDTA blood samples were collected from each of them prior to remedy intake. Portions of each sample were treated in vitro with the patients' individually prescribed remedy, Pulsatilla, Natrium muriaticum at either 30c or 200c potency, or placebo. All samples were analysed using the Kaelin blood test. To assess the stability of the experimental set-up, 13 analogous systematic negative control (SNC) experiments were performed. Additionally, 16 untreated blood samples were analysed to correlate the chromatographic pattern features with blood parameters. Chromatograms from both experimental series were scanned and evaluated using computerised image analysis.

Results
Two-way analysis of variance with patient and treatment as independent factors revealed statistically significant interactions (p < 0.05) in 10 out of 10 pattern evaluation parameters; only three parameters showed significant main effects (p < 0.05). The SNC experiments did not show any statistically significant effects, being indicative of a robust and stable experimental set-up. These findings suggest that the response of the blood samples to the homeopathic treatments was contingent upon the individual patient, indicating patient-specific effects. Strong correlations were found between pattern features and blood parameters related to haemoglobin and liver function.

Conclusion
The Kaelin blood test may be considered a potentially useful ex vivo, in vitro model for investigating individualised responses of human blood samples to homeopathic treatments.

Homeoprophylaxis appears to explain heightened resistance to the causes of disease in people who have been under homeopathic care for some years prior to an epidemic.

Dr. R. F. Rabe, MD, pointed out this aspect of homeoprophylaxis in his September 1919 editorial of the "Homoeopathic Recorder:"

“It is an undoubted fact that patients accustomed to good homeopathic prescribing have been more resistant to the infection of influenza, or for that matter, to the infection of any other disease. When such patients do become ill, the illness is likely to be less severe and more quickly and easily overcome. For this reason, homeopathic physicians are often charged with having the easy cases, when in reality they prevent them from becoming difficult. This is at the same time an advantage, as well as a disadvantage of homeopathy, for to the uninitiated it appears so ridiculously simple that to their minds there can be nothing in it.”

Homeopathy in History...

The mortality from yellow fever has varied from one epidemic to another, but has frequently been recorded as falling between 20% and 70%. However, according to Osler, it could go as low as 15 percent and as high as 85 percent, like the epidemic that devastated Philadelphia in 1793.

In 1853, at the Mississippi State Hospital in Natchez, the allopaths lost 55 percent of their cases with yellow fever. At the same time in Natchez, Drs. Davis and William H. Holcombe, two homeopathic physicians, treated 555 cases of yellow fever with 33 deaths, a mortality of 6.0 percent.

Following the epidemic, this announcement appeared: “The trustees of the Mississippi State Hospital at Natchez have appointed Drs. Davis and Holcombe, homœopathic physicians and surgeons of that institutions for the year 1854. The trustees, it is said, think themselves justified in the act by the successful treatment of yellow fever by the new school of medicine. This has been a long-established allopathic hospital, and its passing over to the homœopathic hospices will, no doubt, create considerable sensation in certain quarters.”

From our esteemed colleagues at the Homeopathy Research Institute (HRI):

"A new study by HRI, published in the Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, critically examined claims made in a 2022 paper suggesting ‘shockingly poor’ scientific and ethical standards in homeopathy clinical trials. Through this meta-research study, HRI’s re-analysis found that the original conclusions were based on substantially inaccurate data, which, when corrected, present a far more favourable picture of reporting bias in homeopathy.

HRI’s new publication demonstrates that scientific and ethical standards in homeopathy are sound, and the published evidence remains valid."

A recent study from the U.K. reviewed patient reported outcome measures in homeopathic clinical practice for long-term conditions.

The research team used the Measure Yourself Medical Outcome Profile (MYMOP2) as a tool to assist clinicians in setting the treatment goals across a wide range of diagnoses and other complaints in routine clinical practice at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital. The data collected from the MYMOP2 is of significance in its own right and the results are now reported in this paper.

Results: A total of 198 patients with a wide range of complaints attended one to five consultations with 20 homeopathic doctors. Diagnostic categories were most commonly neoplasms (16.7%), psychological (13.9%) and genitourinary complaints (12.3%), with 66.7% suffering from these problems for at least one year. The three symptoms that bothered patients the most were pain, mental symptoms, and tiredness/fatigue.

Conclusion: The MYMOP2 results add to a growing body of observational data which demonstrates that when patients with long-term conditions come under homeopathic care, their presenting symptoms and wellbeing often improve. Offering a low cost, high impact intervention to extend the range of choice to patients and to support self-care could be an important part of the NHS.

One of the lessons of the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918-19...

When genuine homeopathic treatment is administered to persons experiencing the first symptoms of an epidemic infection, the progression of the infection is soon mitigated, and it would therefore be very unlikely for such persons to develop the more advanced stages of morbidity and complications, which lead to death.

Professor A. H. Grimmer of the Hering Medical College in Chicago, who was known to be a Hahnemannian, pointed out, while in the midst of the pandemic, “It is a rare thing for a pneumonia to develop if a good homeopathic physician is called during the first twenty-four hours of an attack of influenza.”

Dr. John McBride of Zanesville, Ohio, remarked, “During the epidemic of 1918, when in my city the death rate was very high, it was the other fellow who kept the undertakers busy, so that they said our profession did not have cases of pneumonia. I do think our treatment prevented the development of pneumonia.”
