Hello, summer!

Today marks the first day of summer, and with warmer weather comes more time spent enjoying our lakes, rivers, trails, campgrounds and communities across Renfrew County.

Whether you're boating, swimming, hiking, paddling, camping or spending time with family and friends, we encourage everyone to make safety part of the plan:
• Wear a properly fitted lifejacket when on the water
• Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun
• Keep an eye on children around water and outdoor activities

Our Paramedics are here when you need us, but we hope your summer is filled with nothing but great memories and safe adventures.

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy everything summer in Renfrew County has to offer!

This Father's Day, we are celebrating the dads, mentors and role models who help shape our lives and support us along the way.

Paramedic Darryl recently shared this special photo with his father, who has proudly played the bagpipes alongside the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service Honour Guard at several community and ceremonial events over the years. Most recently, father and son attended events recognizing and honouring first responders in Petawawa and Laurentian Valley.

The sound of the pipes is a meaningful part of many ceremonies, and it has been a special experience for Darryl to share these moments of service and remembrance with his dad.

To all the dads, grandfathers, stepdads and father figures in our communities, thank you for your guidance, encouragement and support.

Happy Father's Day from the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service.

On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, histories and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada.

The artwork featured in this graphic incorporates meaningful symbols that reflect connection, resilience, culture and remembrance, while the sunrise-inspired colours acknowledge the summer solstice, a time of celebration for many Indigenous communities.

Today is an opportunity to learn, reflect and celebrate the diverse Indigenous cultures that continue to shape our communities and our country.

Wishing a Happy Father’s Day weekend to anyone who identifies as a father figure. A special acknowledgement to any paramedic dads who are working away from their families. We know it can be tough.

Keep ticks away from your property by keeping grass short, trimming bushes and trees, using a border of gravel or woodchips around your yard, cleaning up leaf litter and moving playground equipment away from wooded areas.

We were grateful for the opportunity to recently visit Highview Public School in Pembroke as part of the school's Community Helpers unit.

Students were given a hands-on look at the important role Paramedics play in their community. From exploring the inside of an ambulance and learning about emergency equipment to trying on gloves, sitting on the stretcher and even taking a turn in the driver's seat, students had the chance to ask questions and discover what a day in the life of a Paramedic looks like.

There is only so much a picture book can teach, and it was wonderful to help bring classroom learning to life by sharing our experiences and introducing students to the many ways Paramedics help people every day.

Thank you to the staff and students at Highview Public School for the warm welcome. We enjoyed spending time with your future community helpers!

A key focus of the exchange program was Community Paramedicine, an innovative model of care that helps connect patients with the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

German Paramedic student Markus spent time with Community Paramedic Jun learning how the Community Paramedicine Program supports patients throughout Renfrew County.

The visit created an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences, allowing both Paramedics to learn from each other's healthcare systems and approaches to supporting patients in their communities.

German Paramedic student Magdalena joined Community Paramedic Matt as he prepared to initiate a rural Renfrew County patient on remote monitoring equipment. The hands-on experience provided insight into how technology can support patients in their homes while improving access to care across a large geographic region.

We hope Markus and Magdalena returned home with new perspectives, valuable experiences and a greater understanding of how Community Paramedicine is helping support patients across Renfrew County.

German Paramedic students Magdalena and Markus also had the opportunity to learn about the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service Aerial Response Unit (ARU) during their visit to Renfrew County.

Paramedic Commander Gord introduced the group to the ARU and demonstrated how remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) support a variety of clinical, operational and strategic missions.

The program is used for patient locating, identifying access and egress routes, operational oversight, disaster response, mapping, training and inter-agency support.

As part of the visit, Magdalena and Markus had the opportunity to see the technology in action and learn how drone operations can support patient care and decision-making in complex environments.
