Getting outside, growing your own food, and getting dirty in the garden (or on the farm!) are all steps in the direction toward lower A1C and taking control of your sugar cravings!

Why?

Because they help to relieve stress. Stress can be a huge contributing factor to glucose or blood sugar imbalance.

We are often told to lower our stress levels to help achieve our health goals, but if we knew how to do that, we would already be doing it!

My biggest and best stress relieving advice is to get outside. It's simple, can often only take a moment, and is achievable for almost everyone.

The take away? Get your butt outside, and talk to me about your next steps toward energy all day and keeping that prediabetes out of your future! Links in my bio!

We have come to think that medications such as statins are just an inevitable part of getting older.

Of course, there are many reasons that someone might have to take these medications that have nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, but often we simply aren't armed with the knowledge and empowerment we need to take our health into our own hands.

Many of us here grew up on the S.A.D. diet (Standard American Diet), which includes many overprocessed foods, lots of processed sugar, rancid fats, and foods produced with inflammatory chemicals. Even eating what we might consider a very conscientious diet, these foods will often find their way to us.

BUT!

I wouldn't bring up a problem without offering some empowerment and strategies to do something about it and keep the power of health in our own hands!

We can make small changes today for a medication-free tomorrow.

I have an amazing 12 week program called Sugarless to Flourish. It was designed for you based on all the strategies that worked for me.

I also have a free guide filled with achievable actions steps yoi can take for yourself today. It's called Your Ultimate Guide to Avoiding That 3pm Slump and it is designed to do just that!

Type 3PMSLUMP in the comments and it's yours for free!

My dear friend rediscovered a technique with her singing that made new challenges easier...

(And aside from being inspired and reminded by her that no matter how far along we are in whatever we're doing, we should always be perpetual students! Thank you, my friend!)
..the same goes for our health, wellness, and vitality!

It's never too late to rediscover how great we can feel, or find that long lost energy we had when we were younger!

Sometimes we don't know how far up we can go until we start traveling in that direction. 😊

Being tired all of the time is NOT just part of getting older. It is often a cumulation of many factors, often metabolic. And more often than not, it's fluctuating blood sugar or insulin resistance that gets the metabolic ball rolling in the wrong direction.

Stop the ball and get it going down the right hill! The energy hill! πŸ˜ƒ

My free guide has a whole bunch of achievable and sustainable ways to do just that! Type REDISCOVER in the comments and I will send you the link!

Today I was ao grateful to host my seventh workshop at the Georgian Bay Native Women's Association!

Being a blood sugar nutritionist and 3pm slump antagonist, my main focus is to host workshops that aim at:

πŸ“ abolishing energy slumps in the workplace,
πŸ“ increasing productivity,
πŸ“ increasing morale, as well as
πŸ“ increasing prosperity to all those within the corporation or community.

However, because this particular community felt that it was important to address a variety of different health conditions, today we tackled the ubiquitous condition of chronic inflammation.

We did discuss however, how inflammation and blood sugar control can be very closely interconnected:

🍬 Firstly, processed sugar is a highly inflammatory food.

🍬 Secondly, candida, a ye**ty beasty that can overgrow not only in our large intestine, but systemically throughout the whole body, thrives on sugar, making us crave more, and creating inflammation as it grows.

🍬 Thirdly, that insulin can be anti-inflammatory in those who are insulin sensitive, but is inflammatory to those who are insulin resistant.
..and many other connections!

Contact me (my links are in my bio!) and we can chat to see how I can bring a boost to your community, association, or corporation. It's amazing what a little knowledge and empowerment can accomplish!

I'll tell you what she has.

She always has meals with these criteria in mind:

πŸ₯• Friendly fibre

πŸ₯© Where's the protein?

πŸ₯œ Don't fear the fat!

Doing the same will certainly get you started on your way to getting that blood sugar back under your control and lessen those intense cravings sugar and other stimulants like coffee and alcohol.

Most of us already create meals with these three components without even thinking of it, but if we start including them in a mindful way, we're more likely to add another veggie or two, or another source of protein. Over time, believe me, these small daily changes go a looooong way!

I love this recipe.

It is Empowered Noodle Bowl from The Oh She
Glows Cookbook. I don't necessarily endorse a plant based diet for everyone, but I do endorse anything by Angela Liddon. I don't think I've tried a recipe of hers that didn't work out!

Type 3PMSLUMP below for my free guide that explains your next steps toward eliminating that frustrating 3pm slump and feeling energized all day! Imagine what you could so with your time if you had all the energy to do it! 😊

What are your cravings telling you about your body right now?

There is a difference between listening to your body's cues, and needing that chocolate bar now, and often.

If we are paying attention to what our bodies are telling us, we can use cravings for any food, not just sugary food, as a guideline for what they might be lacking, and how we can round out our diet in a way that provides them with what they need to function optimally, so we can get the most out of this amazing life.

On the other hand, if we feel we are totally controlled by insatiable cravings that feel urgent, or is just part of our daily lives, we may be dealing with sugar addiction, with a nice backsplash of insulin resistance. When this happens the imbalance is felt all over our bodies with other signs like mood swings, night sweats, feeling groggy when you wake up, or living in a perpetual 3pm slump like it was your day job.

If this sounds like you and you're tired of feeling tired, dragging your feet until your next intense need for sugar hits, write 3PMSLUMP in the comments below and I will send you my free guide! It's called Your Ultimate Guide to Avoiding That 3pm Slump and I absolutely love it as a very strong, achievable, and effective first step to putting the control back in your hands. I look forward to hearing from you! 😊

Good sunny Monday morning!

Over here in this part of Ontario we're in the middle of a beautiful, sunny, summery streak of weather.

I encourage getting outside in all kinds of weather, but it's definitely easier to do so when it's all sunny and breezy!

Some of us might be surprised to learn that stress is a huge factor when it comes to blood sugar balance. We might do everything "right" (eating all the fibre, moving our bodies, avoiding processed sugar, etc.) but notice we are experiencing all sorts of insulin resistant symptoms!

These can include energy highs and lows (especially after eating or mid-afternoon), difficulty waking up in the morning, major cravings for sugar, alcohol, or caffeine, mood swings, as well as many others!

This is because insulin is a hormone, and so are stress hormones like cortisol. Hormones affect each other in all sorts of ways. When one is affected, so are others, and the results can include a wide range of symptoms, including those involved with insulin resistance, prediabetes, and eventually even type 2 diabetes.

Don't underestimate the amazing power of nature or sunshine to affect our stress response throughout the day in a positive way. Grab whatever is available to you on this fine Monday, even if it's 5 minutes of sunshine. Close your eyes, take it in, and do your blood sugar a favour by enjoying your beautiful day! 😊

Friendly fibre is our best friend today, as well as for the entire salad season! πŸ˜€

Fresh foods are becoming bountiful this time of year and we need to take advantage of all that's available. Add whatever veggie appeals to the recipe below! I tend to just clear my fridge out with this one so the more fibre the merrier! It is already filled with fibre from the quinoa, black beans, and vegetables however, as well as protein from the black beans, quinoa, and h**p hearts.

Quinoa salad (just mix it all in one big bowl!)

One whole box of quinoa, cooked and cooled
One can of black beans, rinsed
Olive oil (enough to coat the quinoa)
Tamari (splashed in, to taste)
Red wine vinegar (splashed in, to taste)
One stalk of green onions, diced
Cucumber, diced
Red pepper, diced
Black olives (2 heaping tablespoons)
2 carrots, grated
Kale (1 large leaf, minced)
H**p hearts (2 heaping tablespoons)
Crumbled feta cheese, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Any herbs you like! My favorites include rosemary and thyme, but anything you like works!

Type QUINOA in the comments below for more recipes, tips, and next steps on your journey to sustained energy, stable weight, and no more of that frustrating 3pm slump!
