National Indigenous Peoples Day - June 21

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day each year. This date was chosen because on many years, like this one, it is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Due to the significance of this date in many Indigenous cultures, it was nationally recognized in 1996 as National First Peoples Day. It has since been renamed to National Indigenous Peoples Day. Around this time many Indigenous communities in Canada come together to celebrate their heritage, culture, and history with ceremonies and events.

Through charitable gaming, funds raised are supporting our programs and services, like Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Hospital to Home programs, Home support and maintenance, and more.

We're honoured to announce the winners of the 2026 Grandparent of the Year Awards, a cherished tradition now in its 38th year. 🥰 Presented in partnership with The Gardens Retirement Living as Title Sponsor, the annual contest celebrates the deep bonds between children and the older adults who inspire, guide, and care for them.

Students from across the City and County of Peterborough in Grades 1 through 6 were invited to submit a hand-drawn picture and a short written piece honouring a grandparent, elder, or special older person in their lives. A winner and honourable mention were selected in both English and French for Primary grades 1 to 3, and in English for the Junior grades 4 to 6.

We'll be attending the Living Well Seniors Showcase on Wednesday, June 17 from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre.

Visit us alongside our community partners from our region to learn more about local programs, services, and healthcare resources available in the City and County of Peterborough. Free workshops available!

Help Shape the Future of Transit in Peterborough County

We are exploring new public transit options in Peterborough County, and we want your input! This study will explore how public transit could be provided between our communities and the overall demand for transit in the County.
