Chaos happens to the local training calendar in early September.
If you're pointed at an October race, this is your biggest month of running. If you play hockey, tryouts and camps just landed on the calendar. And school going back took whatever slack was left in the week.
None of that is a problem on its own. Stacked together, it's why so many people arrive in October with a nagging calf, a cranky hip, or legs that donβt have any gas.
The work you do on the road or in the gym is only half of the equation. Your body rebuilds a little stronger in the hours between sessions, but only if it gets the space to do it.
A workable week for most people looks like two or three touchpoints, most of them under an hour:
πΉ Infrared sauna on easy days
πΉ Normatec after your long run, while you're sitting anyway
πΉ Contrast therapy on game days, when you're not lifting heavy
πΉ A float or a massage every second or third week
You don't need all of it, and you don't need it every week. Consistency you can actually maintain beats a perfect protocol you abandon by October.
