How accessible is your business to customers with disabilities?

It can be difficult to spot barriers if you haven’t experienced them yourself.

Join us later today for our Time in My Shoes (TiMS), a hands-on session hosted by the Council for Persons with Disabilities that gives local business owners and employees a chance to experience some of the barriers people with disabilities may face.

Led by facilitators with lived experience, the session combines simulated activities, demonstrations and open conversation about disability, accessibility and accommodation.

Come with your questions and leave with a better understanding of how accessibility can shape the customer experience.

Peterborough Special Olympics athletes were covered in hardware, bringing home 24 medals while representing Team Ontario at the Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alb., from Aug. 11 to 15.

The Council for Persons with Disabilities is incredibly proud to celebrate our very own Breanne Mackenzie and her outstanding accomplishments at the Special Olympics Peterborough Ontario competition in Medicine Hat, Alberta!

Breanne brought home an incredible four medals:

🥇 Gold – 50M Backstroke
🥈 Silver – 25M Freestyle
🥉 Bronze – 50M Freestyle
🥉 Bronze – 25M Backstroke

Breanne, your hard work, determination and dedication are an inspiration to all of us at CPD. We couldn't be prouder to have you as part of our team!

Today, the Council for Persons with Disabilities celebrates the incredible contributions, talents, and leadership of young people in our community and around the world.

Youth are shaping the future through their ideas, advocacy, creativity, and determination. When young people with disabilities are empowered, included, and given opportunities to thrive, our communities become stronger, more innovative, and more equitable for everyone.

On this International Youth Day, we recognize the importance of ensuring that all young people have access to education, employment, recreation, leadership opportunities, and a voice in decisions that affect their lives.

To the young people who are challenging barriers, pursuing their dreams, and making a difference every day: your perspectives matter, your contributions are valued, and your future is bright.

Together, let's continue building communities where every young person can belong, participate, and succeed.

🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️ Good Luck, Team Peterborough!

The Council for Persons with Disabilities is incredibly proud to cheer on Breanne Mackenzie, Steve Caban and Tessa Scates as they represent Peterborough and Ontario at the Canadian National Special Olympic Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta! 🇨🇦🎉

We’re especially excited to cheer on our very own Breanne Mackenzie, a valued member of the CPD team! 💙 Breanne, we are so proud to see you representing our community on the national stage.

From August 9–16, Breanne, Steve and Tessa will compete alongside swimmers from across Canada, joined by Special Olympics Peterborough Ontario head swim coach Debbie Quinland.

Your dedication, hard work and accomplishments are an inspiration to our entire community. Good luck to all three athletes — Peterborough and everyone at CPD are cheering you on! 👏🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️
