Alberni Lifeline Alberni Lifeline is 'Your Local Personal Emergency Response Service'.

In 1987, the administration at WCGH brought the idea of Lifeline’s Medical Alert Service to the Alberni Valley. Sharon Fedirchuk was contact by a friend working as a nurse in the ER at WCGH and asked if she would be interested in volunteering her time to set up and coordinate the Lifeline program. Sharon felt it was a very worthwhile service and she installed the first unit in the Port Alberni on

March 29, 1988. Sharon continued to volunteer in the role of coordinator for the Alberni Lifeline Program until late in 1989/early 1990. At that time, she handed over the coordinator role to one of her dedicated volunteers, Leroy Loewen. When Sharon retired in 2000 once again she offered her time as a volunteer for Alberni Lifeline. Over the years Alberni Lifeline has continued to grow in Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet and Bamfield. Eventually ownership and operations of Alberni Lifeline was given over to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation and the profits generated by the program are donated into the Foundation. WCGH Foundation uses the funds generated to purchase new medical equipment, improve services and assist with funding for projects inside WCGH.

Such great news for West Coast General Hospital cancer patients with the announcement of a Cancer Care Clinic coming to WCGH. The WCGH Foundation will be working hard to raise funds for this project.

Island Health has approved ongoing funding to staff a new cancer centre to be offered at West Coast General Hospital.

Alberni Lifeline was proud to present the Player of the Month trophy, made and designed by DBA Silencing, at the March 27th Alberni Valley Bulldogs game to the March 2026 winner #13- Teague McAllister. The trophy was presented by our Alberni Lifeline Program Manager, Dodi Clark along with Jays/Lace it up Buyer, Carly Clark and Sales Associate, Sophia Bauto.

Such a beautiful space in West Coast General Hospital, and it is maintained by volunteers with the WCGH Foundation! Also part of the Health Square is the West Coast Café, owned by the WCGH Foundation, where you can get a coffee and a snack then sit and enjoy the gardens :)

Alberni Lifeline was proud to present the Player of the Month trophy, made and designed by DBA Silencing, at the March 7th Alberni Valley Bulldogs game to the February 2026 winner #21 – Kye Benoche. The trophy was presented by our Alberni Lifeline Program Manager, Dodi Clark.
