Concussion recovery doesn’t have to mean choosing between doing nothing and pushing through your symptoms.

After the initial period of relative rest, recovery is often about gradually reintroducing activity, paying attention to how your symptoms respond, and adjusting as you go.

Start small. Take breaks. Change one thing at a time. And remember that a mild, short-lived increase in symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve set your recovery back.

The goal isn’t to avoid activity. It’s to find the right amount for where you are today, then gradually build from there. 🌲

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Tall Tree 10K! 🌲🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

On September 13, hundreds of runners, families, friends, volunteers and community partners came together at Elk/Beaver Lake for a pretty special day.

There were fast finishes, big smiles, loud cheers, tiny medal holders, great food, post-race treats and a whole lot of community spirit. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who ran, cheered, volunteered, supported and helped bring the day to life. We couldn’t have done it without you.

And, of course, a massive thank you to our incredible sponsors:

🌲 Hornby Organic
🌲 OUTWAY
🌲 Mateína
🌲 Quality Foods | Your Community Grocery Store
🌲 MyHealthspan | Preventative Health Testing
🌲 Sprout Family Health
🌲 Resthouse Sleep
🌲 Athletic Brewing Co

And our **Friends of the 10K** who made race day even better:

💚 Annex Fitness for getting everyone moving with our pre-race warm-up
💚 Kattia’s Kitchen Restaurant for fuelling our runners and spectators
💚 St. John Ambulance Victoria BC for helping keep everyone safe
💚 Martha's Delectables for the very important edible medals
💚 Justine 🌸 Wedding Flower Budget Help for helping make race day extra special
💚 West Coast College of Massage for providing post-race massages

Thank you for making the Tall Tree 10K so much more than a race. We’ll see you at the start line next year. 🌲💚

When someone you care about has a concussion, it can be difficult to know how to help.

Start by believing what they’re experiencing. Concussion symptoms are often invisible, and their energy, concentration, mood, and tolerance for activity may change from one day to the next.

Instead of telling them to rest or push through, ask what would make their day easier. That might mean providing a ride, bringing over a meal, helping with errands, keeping visits short, or simply being understanding when plans need to change.

Anyone with a suspected concussion should stop the activity and be assessed by a doctor or nurse practitioner. If they develop serious or worsening symptoms, seek emergency medical care.

Recovery can feel isolating. Practical help, patience, and a simple “I believe you” can make a meaningful difference.

Save this post or share it with someone supporting a person through concussion recovery.
