It was an honour to take part in this year’s Hike for Hospice, joining thousands of people across Canada in support of Crossroads Hospice Society and the vital work they do in our community.

There was something really special about seeing friends, families, and even a few four-legged companions all moving together for the same cause. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful community can be when we show up for one another.

One of the things I treasure most is spending time with people who have a lifetime of stories, wisdom, and experiences to share. 🤍✨

This is my sweet father-in-law, Charles Csuka. I’ve always enjoyed our conversations and listening to the stories he’s collected throughout his life. There is something so special about sitting with someone from a different generation and hearing their perspective, their memories, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

I truly believe there is so much wisdom to be gained when we take the time to listen. In a world that moves quickly, these moments of connection are a beautiful reminder to slow down and appreciate the people who came before us.

Here are 7 habits of unforgettable hosts:

🤍 1. Prepare before guests arrive.
Nothing creates stress like scrambling at the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time to prepare food, drinks and atmosphere so there’s no stress when guests arrive.

🤍 2. Welcome every guest personally.
A genuine greeting at the door sets the tone for the entire evening.

🤍 3. Introduce people thoughtfully.
Don’t just share names, give guests a reason to connect. “Sarah just got back from Italy and Mark is planning a trip there next month.”

🤍 4. Never let one guest feel left out.
Keep an eye out for anyone standing alone and gently bring them into the conversation.

🤍 5. Create an pleasant atmosphere.
Get creative with this one! Small things like putting on music and setting your tv to display classical paintings can make a huge difference in creating a lovely atmosphere.

🤍 6. Anticipate needs before they’re asked.
Setting up a station where guests can fill their water or tea, snacks available and napkins set out makes it easier for guests to grab what they need without feeling like they need to interrupt conversation to ask for something.

The most elegant hosts spend less time fussing over details and more time enjoying the people they’ve invited.
