🏀 Little Hands, Big Skills: Rolling, Catching, and Growing! ⚽

Did you know that playing with a ball is one of the most educational things a toddler can do?

At this magical age, children learn best when their bodies are moving and their imaginations are engaged. Introducing a variety of balls big, small, bumpy, and smooth isn't just preparation for future sports; it's a powerful tool for holistic early development!

Here is a look at the incredible skills toddlers can build through intentional, play-based ball activities:

Tracking & Visual Predictability: Rolling, bouncing, and tossing balls helps children practice tracking moving objects with their eyes. This visual tracking is a foundational skill that is directly linked to future early reading and literacy skills!

Bilateral Coordination & Hand-Eye Control: Figuring out how to catch a ball with two hands or kick it with one foot requires both sides of the brain and body to communicate. It builds the precise hand-eye coordination they will soon use to hold a pencil or use scissors.

Spatial Awareness & Physics in Motion: Through pure play, children experiment with cause and effect. “How hard do I need to push this red ball to reach my friend?” or “Why does the heavy ball roll faster than the light one?” This is foundational engineering and math in action!

Proprioception & Core Strength: Balancing on a ball (just like in our photo!) or bending down to scoop one up builds the core stability, posture, and body awareness needed for sitting comfortably at a classroom table later on.

By keeping it entirely play-based, children don't even realize they are building a massive toolkit of cognitive and physical skills they just know they are having a blast!

🌺 Remembrance Day at KVC

Today we wear our poppies and take a quiet moment to say ‘thank you’ to the people who helped keep us safe.

At KV this week we will continue to talk about kindness, helping others, and peace in ways our little ones can understand. One example of involving your little one on Remembrance Day is making red poppy crafts, read gentle stories about caring for one another, and practiced taking a calm, quiet moment together.

It’s never too early to teach love, gratitude, and respect.

Every giggle, sound, and new word is a milestone worth celebrating!
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) play a key role in helping toddlers build strong communication skills early on through play, connection, and everyday moments.

Early speech therapy can help toddlers:
