We asked Alana what made her start coming to the gym and her answer did not disappoint ❤️

“Why did I start?
I started to keep my health and get stronger. I was pregnant with my first child and I really wanted to stay active. My fitness journey started in my basement with dumbbells and youtube. This worked for a while, but I just wasn’t staying consistent and I really wanted more. I wanted to get stronger, but I was so intimidated to start at a gym. I started going to EdgyFit on my lunch breaks back in 2019 with Kari and I was instantly hooked. I love the noon classes so much!

Why did I stay?
I am a busy mom of three, soon to be four, and this space has become a non-negotiable for me. It allows me to take a mental break from work and allows me to do something for myself. Because when I get home, I am in mommy-mode.
The best part is that all I do is show up, complete the exercises the trainers have laid out, and I leave. There is zero thought put into it on my end, which is everything I need right now at this stage in my life. I am obsessed with this space. The connection. The trainers. The classes. I would advise anyone that wants to start, to start with the classes. They are fun and you need to put zero thought into it! Just show up, rock it, and head out!” -Alana

What if the solution was this simple?

Bloating, fatigue, low energy, poor sleep, sore, no progress in the gym. All these things are holding you back from progress. What if we told you it didn’t have to be this way?

Goodphyte is a product we carry at Edgy Fit and we are proud to share it! How it works is simple; it helps your gut absorb its nutrients. You can eat as healthy as you want but if you’re not absorbing the nutrients you take in, you’re not reaping the benefits of what food can do for you. Real people with real results and everything backed by science; a company with the main goal of helping people feel better and reach their health goals.

Long time member Jen has a fitness journey we are so proud to share!

She got vulnerable, hired Jenelle to create a custom program for her and soon after took the next big step and hired a nutrition coach Kailee. With years of hard work and perseverance she’s been crushing goals left and right and hasn’t looked back.

“What made me start at the gym & what keeps me going

I started going to the gym a little over 9 years ago. A friend had told me about a personal trainer accepting new clients, so I decided to go for it and booked an appointment with her. I was very unhappy with my self-image, as well as with carrying a lot of extra weight. After the training session with her, I could barely move for a few days after. This was a huge wake-up call on how out of shape I was. I continued with her for a while and did things on my own before enlisting a personal trainer to create workouts for me and later a nutritionist to help me lose more weight.

Over this course of time, I have taken off and kept off 115 lbs! Since then, it has been a huge self-confidence booster and I feel so much better. The gym is so much more than just keeping me in shape, but is crucial for my mental health as I feel empowered after every workout. I can’t imagine where I would be if I didn’t decide to book that first workout session.” Jen R.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help and direction! You won’t regret it and it’s amazing to have support to stay on track.

I’ll go first.

I started going to the gym when I was 18 years old. I had just been recruited to play college volleyball at TKU and we were given a program to follow. I had zero experience or knowledge but knew that in order to be a successful athlete at the elite level I had to figure it out.

My first feeling stepping into the gym was completely terrifying. Thank gosh I had a program to follow or I honestly probably would have just walked out. There were a bunch of people lifting heavy weights, talking to one another. Everyone knew what they were doing except me. I went to the first piece of equipment that looked similar to my program and I didn’t even know how to set it up and all I kept thinking was that everyone in the room probably thought I was a complete idiot. I was extremely uncomfortable and wanted to quit.

But I kept showing up because I knew my teammates were working hard and I had to fight for my spot on the team. I couldn’t get left behind so I had to keep showing up even when I was terrified and embarrassed.

Fast forward to now and I now can’t imagine life without workouts and training. It became a life long habit that directly impacted my life in so many positive ways. And I recognize that everytime I get off my routine I do not feel at my best. My goals are different there’s no college team anymore keeping me motivated. What keeps me going is wanting to keep up with my kids, be an active volleyball coach that can still give my athletes a run for their money when I feel like it, and most importantly feel and be my absolute best healthy self.

Do the hard thing. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. You won’t regret it when you look back to that first step into the gym ❤️

You can do this as a circuit, or do each exercise individually for 3-4 rounds. Aim for 8-12 reps of each depending on your goals; lift heavier at 8 reps vs medium/lighter at 12 reps.

Protein = Progress. Workout and cut calories all you want; but without a high protein diet you’re not going to be happy with your results.
If you fell off the fitness routine this summer like I did, here 2 tips I use to get back on track with my nutrition:

1. Consume protein at every meal and snack. At my big meals I focus on getting in beef, chicken, pork, eggs, etc. I eat approx 20-30grams worth at protein each meal. I don’t necessary track, but I know what this amount looks like because of practice and I aim for it at every meal.

2. Have high protein snacks for on the go that are easy. I grab beef jerky or some sort of meat stick, protein drinks, protein bars, Greek yogurt, chicken broth, cottage cheese, protein powders mixed into things, homemade protein balls, etc. make sure it’s available at all times, especially for the days that are packed and busy or away on vacation

The rest of my nutrition might not be perfect but that’s okay. I am prioritizing protein for the next few weeks while I get back into a routine. Keep it simple and you’ll create a habit and routine. We can add more to it later once the routine is back!
