Sport has the power to bring people together, build understanding, and celebrate the stories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across Saskatchewan and Canada.

June is Pride Month — a time to celebrate and support 2SLGBTQIA+ athletes, coaches, volunteers, and community members.

At Special Olympics Saskatchewan, we believe everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, valued, and included both in sport and in our communities. Inclusion means creating spaces where every person can participate authentically, safely, and with pride.

We encourage our community to learn more about inclusion and support for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals across Saskatchewan through the Saskatchewan Pride Network: https://www.saskpridenetwork.com/

Together, we’re building a culture of belonging — on and off the field.

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.

At Special Olympics Saskatchewan, we recognize the impact of Indigenous athletes, coaches, and volunteers and remain committed to advancing Truth and Reconciliation through sport and inclusion, including supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #87, which calls on organizations to celebrate and share the stories and achievements of Indigenous athletes in Canada.

To learn more about Indigenous sport in Saskatchewan and the importance of Call to Action #87, we encourage you to explore these resources:

🏅 Indigenous Sport Timeline (Saskatchewan) https://indigenoustimeline.ca/

🏅 Sask Sport Indigenous Sport Resources https://www.sasksport.ca/programs-services/indigenous-sport/

Together, we continue to learn, reflect, and build understanding through the power of sport.

Sask Sport Inc., supported by the Indigenous Sport Leadership Council, is proud to present an Indigenous Sport Timeline. This timeline celebrates the growth in Indigenous sport participation throughout Saskatchewan.

“We’re all much more alike than we are different, and sport is a great common denominator.” — Dr. Frank Hayden

The Special Olympics movement exists today because Dr. Frank Hayden believed in a world that too many people could not yet see — one where individuals of all abilities would have the same opportunity to compete, belong, lead and be celebrated through sport. His vision changed millions of lives across Canada and around the world, and his legacy lives on in every Special Olympics athlete, coach, volunteer, family member and community touched by the movement he sparked.

Thank you to TTSNfor this beautiful tribute honouring a Canadian trailblazer whose vision continues to transform lives every day.
