The countdown is on! In 20 days I head back to my favourite city in the world, Chengdu! I will be gone until November 16th, and off work from the 21st of October to November 18th.

Why am I going this time? I’m going for school (😅), but also to hang out at tea houses, eat delicious Sichuan food, go see pandas again, check out the massive herbal medicine market and visit friends.

What school you ask? Some of you know but I’ve been diligently studying Mandarin since I returned from my internship last summer. I am at a weird gap between elementary and intermediate so I have enrolled in language school to hopefully bridge that gap!

A convenient happenstance is that I’m also enrolled back in TCM school to start working towards my doctorate which has been a goal of mine since I was 21, and Chengdu happens to have a massive herbal medicine market, and Sichuan province produces some of the highest quality herbs! A double whammy. I can study language and materia medica at the same time, how exciting!

Long story short, I’m back in China in 20 days, my schedule is open until I leave. :)

When I was studying last summer in China, I was lucky enough to be there during San Fu Tian and witness all of the treatments. It really stuck with me, so I decided to make a blog post about it since we’re coming up on it.

My new home!

I am officially moved into my new office space. When you come in, you’ll find the door just to the left of the main staircase. No need to climb it just come around the side. Once you enter there’s another door just after a small set of stairs. Please come in and make yourself at home in the waiting room. Once I’m ready for you I’ll come meet you! There is a washroom at the end of the hall for your convenience.

A little reintroduction is in order with my move down the street!

Hi, I’m Mackenzie (Kenzie works too). I’m a dual licensed registered massage therapist and registered acupuncturist, and your friendly neighbourhood lymphatic health gal, now settling into a new space here in Revelstoke.

My practice is built around two things I love deeply: lymphatic health and acupuncture. On the lymphatic side, I’m fully certified in the Vodder Method, up to date on my recertifications, and can fit compression garments.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is where I spend a lot of my brain space these days, working with pain syndromes, neurological conditions, mental health, digestive concerns, and hormonal health. Honestly, Chinese medicine just keeps getting more interesting the deeper you go. Craniosacral therapy rounds out my practice for those who need a gentler touch.

My practice is fully individualized and I only ever see one person at a time. Your hour is yours alone.

I also cofounded Revelstoke Community Acupuncture, a sliding scale clinic dedicated to making acupuncture accessible to everyone here in Revelstoke. It’s one of the things I’m most proud of.

When I’m not in clinic, I’m usually outside like most of us here. I play hockey, I’m starting to coach CrossFit, and I play flute with the community band. I’m also deep in Mandarin studies so I can eventually study Chinese medicine in China without needing a translator. That one’s a long game, but I’m getting there.

I’m back from China, and back to work. My last day at Balu is May 19th and then I will be transitioning over to the Old School building. For those of you who have been there, I will be taking over the old mint spa space below their current space. For those who don’t know that space, you enter from the left of the big staircase (no need to climb it). In the next few weeks I will be painting, and furnishing the room and will share updates as I go! A bittersweet move but I’m excited to grow. My new booking software is linked in my bio. I will be transferring accounts over but if you want to book in feel free to make a new account and I will merge your profiles together.

And just like that it’s time for me to return to China! My last day of work is done, and I am off to Vancouver to catch my flight tomorrow morning.

I am out of office until April 30th. I will have no access to phone calls, limited access to email. I am reachable by WhatsApp and IG messages but will be limiting work things.

My schedule is up and open at Balu until May 19th, and open at my new location from May 24th onwards. That booking is found at fireweed.janeapp.com (it’s in my linktree).

This time around I am going to eat food and immerse myself in the language. I will be stopping a few TCM museums and going to see pandas so I will share on here more than I did last summer.

I’m in the process of integrating into my practice. Acupuncture can be really helpful with hormonal regulation, and fertility support and it’s cool to be able to offer at a quality at home monitoring system for those folks! It can be helpful for managing PCOS, fertility tracking, perimenopause/menopause and more. It gives us some biometrics to see if your acupuncture treatments (and others) are moving things in the right direction. It also gives good insight on the best windows to take blood draws for even deeper data. I just received my new visa in the mail, so it’s official! I’m going back to China in April, my last day of work before I go will be April 6th and I will be back to work on the 30th.

I also realized I didn’t share many posts about my last trip there so here’s a bunch of photos.

As some of you know I’ve been actively studying Mandarin. I take at least two hours of private lessons every week, but sometimes up to 4. This trip is for slow travel and language immersion. And seeing pandas!

I will be back in Beijing, then Datong which I have never been to, then back to Xi’an where my internship was and onwards to Chengdu where I also haven’t been.

I can’t wait. 🥹
