In the turning of the Celtic Wheel February 1 or 2 is Imbolc, the half way point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. It is also called Brighid’s Day (and in some places Groundhog day)
This is the time of year when the Earth is starting to quicken. Beneath the surface that has been laying dormant during the time of darkness the roots of new life are starting to sink into the Mother seeking the nourishment to grow into what they are meant to be. In gardens the newest growth can be seen in the snowdrops in bloom These gentle flowers seem to be able to bloom before any others, harbingers of what is to come.

And gardeners know also that as the weather warms and the sun re-emerges that the old growth, that which is no longer viable, needs to be pruned so the plant can come into it’s fullness when the light is the brightest

In our own lives it is a perfect time to delve deeply into what is stirring deep inside that is ready to be manifested and what areas in our lives we are ready to let go or prune back in order to let the new growth flourish

Today we come to Autumn Equinox ~ Mabon

"Mabon marks the middle of harvest, it is a time of equal day and equal night, and for the moment nature is in balance. It is a time to reap what you have sown, of giving thanks for the harvest and the bounty the Earth provides. For finishing up old projects and plans and planting the seeds for new enterprises or a change in lifestyle. Mabon is a time of celebration and balance.

This is the time to look back not just on the past year, but also your life, and to plan for the future. In the rhythm of the year, Mabon is a time of rest and celebration, after the hard work of gathering the crops. Warm autumn days are followed by chill nights, as the Old Sun God returns to the embrace of the Goddess."
