Today, June 4th, marks the anniversary of the tragic Line of Duty Death of Paramedic Tony Sunderland. He was only 41 when he collapsed and died of a heart attack while attending to two critical patients from a motor vehicle accident near Endako, BC in 1988. Tony was the first APBC paramedic to die while on duty. He was married and had two sons.

Please take a moment today to remember Tony, and the nine other Paramedics who have died in the Line of Duty in BC.

The Ambulance Paramedics of BC – CUPE 873, in conjunction with the BC Government and many other stakeholders, have created the Fallen Paramedics Memorial on the grounds of the legislature in Victoria, BC. We understand that there is no timeline for grief. Your CIS Peer Team is available 24/7 at 1-855-969-4321.

Sincerely,

So much can be said about Steve Williams’ career with BCAS/BCEHS… but at APBC, we’ll always remember him as the perfect Santa- handing out treats and hugs, standing for pics, and greeting paramedics and dispatchers during our yearly Santa Visit. His impact cannot be summarized so easily, from his pumpkin carving fundraiser, his work with the 10-7 Association, to countless other appearances. Rest in Peace Brother. Thank you Steve, from all of us. ❤️
