I hear it all the time from people who try out tea — “I didn’t know chamomile could taste like this, it’s so beautiful” Freshly dried flowers in tea , taste different. The flavour is stronger and more rounded and you’re getting so much more from the plant. You are closer to the plant.

It’s easy , give it a try! Why buy seeds when you do not have to!

* Wait until seeds are fully mature and dry on the plant.
* Collect on a dry day, after the morning dew is gone.
* Dry seeds thoroughly indoors before storing, and label with the plant name and year.

Making smudges is one of those things that you don’t realize is a bit of an art until you start doing it. It’s a multi step process and takes about six weeks in total.

Choosing the plants, arranging them and tying them just right , tightening and tying ,tightening and tying.— your hands end up smelling of cedar and sweetgrass, there are bits of herbs everywhere, and somehow that’s all part of the fun. 🌿

This year I’ve been using a lot of our sweetgrass and it is just divine — such a delicate, sweet smell. There’s something really heartwarming about sitting down with all these plants and crafting them into something beautiful.

I’ve been making a couple of different smudges using mugwort, cedar, sweetgrass and yarrow, each bringing something a little different to the bundle.

Mugwort is traditionally used for intuition and dreaming, cedar for cleansing and grounding, sweetgrass for bringing in positive energy, and yarrow for protection.

Smudging is the simple practice of burning dried plants and using the fragrant smoke to cleanse a space, set an intention, or simply create a quiet moment.

I’m debating doing a little smudge-making workshop next year — getting together, learning about the different plants and making your own bundle to bring home.
