👂 Menopause strikes again! 🚺
Should hearing loss be added to the long list of potential menopause symptoms? It's highly possible!
Research suggests that estrogen actually plays a protective role in both our hearing system and cognitive health. In fact, it might be one of the reasons why women tend to preserve better hearing than men up to a certain age.
But when estrogen drops during menopause, that protection fades—and hearing loss can suddenly appear or speed up. Combine that with the famous "brain fog" or cognitive changes linked to menopause, and it creates a perfect storm for communication challenges.
While we definitely need more research into women's health, one thing is certain: encouraging your friends to get a baseline hearing test is always a smart move!
