Just finished hand writing Christmas business cards to every guest that stayed at RoseSea this year. So many memories. The post office must love to see me coming. Norman was good to help me this year.
Received e_ mail from return guest requesting our Tiddyoggie again. Funny what people remember. I remember their three Miatas.

This is a photo taken from RoseSea Guest House sitting area window. It was kind of Janet MacLean to let me use the photo...

Today is our Canada Day. It is also an important day here in Newfoundland because the food fishery opens for this weekend. It is a time whenever you can catch five cod for your own purposes. It is a time when Newfoundlander's can go back to their heritage roots and do what they want to do most. Fishing was so prevelent before the politicans killed the South West Coast of Newfoundland by selling Newfoundland off to foreign fish factory ships. If there ever was a place of tenacity, resilience and all those positive qualities that built CANada, it is Newfoundland. No

It is one of those perfect days down here at RoseSea Bed and Breakfast in Rose Blanche on the harbour. We had Norman's special coffee out on the bridge with Ramea cookbook's recipe for oatmeal cookies. Big Herbie the seagull who is King of the Harbour was nearby waiting for his kickback. When it was not forth coming, he started his angry dialogue and flying nearer to us . At this point I shook my fist at him and yelled " don't you dare to try to get even."
It is soon time for food fishery to open and the harbour will be filled with the little boats of Newfoundland doing what they like best and want to do most. Of course every seagull will be their best friend as they catch and fillet cod.
Big Herbie will be ruling this harbour front and centre to get more than his share.

Sunny foggy morning right now, but when the fog burns off it should be a glorious day.
Soon off to meet the La Poille ferry to deliver The Little Locket of Petites books for Sandra Vautier Neil. Always enjoy watching boats coming and going about their business. Guess it is that Maritime blood. Then it is Norman's special coffee on the bridge.(see Wayne BRIDGE not deck) with the last of the Ramea Island recipe cookbook bickies.
Still reading Around the Rock In A Bad Mood by Bernie Howgate. It is a real good read about a free spirit but a lot braver than I would ever be.
Then I think that I will try to paint out on The Bridge.

Wonderful to be back in Rose Blanche where the sea makes me feel whole and the various vibes of creativity thump thump to escape.
People who ordered my children's book The Little Locket of Petites are dropping into Madolyn's Studio to pick them up. Others who did not order but have seen friends copy also are dropping buy to buy one too. There are so many human stories about their Petite roots and also the deep connection to Bethany Church, no wonder the pen is churning at the bit. To do justice to both the love of a way of life and to history is worthy of a great writer and is probably more than I can be. To fail would be cruel.

I said to a guest tonight who wanted to reserve with a credit card. I know this is the usual procedure but this is old Newfoundland where there is still trust and decency and honour. I have only been burnt once by a young woman from Toronto who did a no show and never cancelled. I refuse to operate at the lowest common denominator because of one person when RoseSea receives so many wonderful guests with their integrity intact and being deceitful is not even on their radar.
God Bless Thee, God Bless Thee Newfoundland.

Started growing fresh parsley, dill and chives for meals at RoseSea Bed and Breakfast in ROSE Blanche. Gives scrambled eggs made with cream much more flavour. Fresh dill is my favourite though. Wish I could get fresh eggs down there.

Soon leaving for the airport to fly to Newfoundland to attend The Edge of The Wedge Conference in Gros Morne. Hope that at age 76 I can keep up but I know that I will meet lots of great people also in the hospitality industry to share stories etc.
Then if the weather permits, the plan is to travel down to RoseSea Bed and Breakfast in Rose Blanche to get a few things organized for the opening in May. That is when guests start to arrive on their way up to see the icebergs. After a ferry trip from Nova Scotia, they often want a relaxing few days and a nice dinner with wine before adventuring North. We now have two en suites one with a double bed but there is this and that to organize with Lorna before May starts, because we work as a team and appreciate each others strengths.
Will have dinner tonight with Kim, Anne's Mum. Anne is the main character in The Little Locket of Petites book published this year. Last week when ten year old Anne was up visitng, she had her list of priorities for this year's summer visit. #1 was to go back to Petites with Mr. Wayne. #2 sleep in the hammock and watch the shooting stars. (if you see someone shaped like a sideway U, you will know what activity was involved. #3 teaching me how to make brioche #4,5,6,7, etc. etc. buzz! buzz! busy! busy! love the joy of life through a child's eyes. Another beautiful soul mate.

Soon leaving for the airporrt to fly to Newfoundland to attend the Edge of the Wedge Conference in Gros Morne. I am sure that there will be lots to share with other people who are also in the hospitality industry. Then I hope to get down to RoseSea Bed and Breakfast in Rose Blanche to organize a few things ready for opening in May when many tourists are starting to come to the province to see the icebergs. April promises to be a whirlwind of a month. It is sunny here and I hope that the weather will be safe for driving in Newfoundland and I will miss the many spring potholes.
