We are incredibly grateful to the 1988 Foundation (Hecht Foundation) for its exceptionally generous donation of $50,000 to the Shuswap Cardiac Society! ❀️

Currently, the Shuswap Cardiac Society does not receive operational funding from any level of government. It is through generous donations like this that we are able to continue providing accessible, life-changing cardiac rehabilitation services to individuals throughout the Shuswap and surrounding communities.

This funding comes at a critical time and will help us continue supporting the heart health, recovery, and well-being of our participants.

Your generosity is deeply appreciated and will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our participants and their families. From all of us at the Shuswap Cardiac Society, thank you for believing in our work and helping us continue this vital service in our community!

😷 JUST IN ! FREE MASKS AVAILABLE! 😷

A HUGE thank you to our wonderful friends at United Way for providing the Shuswap Cardiac Society with a generous supply of masks to help our community through the smoky conditions we’ve been experiencing. ❀️

With the poor air quality we've seen over the past couple of weeks, it’s especially important for people living with heart or lung conditions to take extra precautions. Wildfire smoke can put added stress on both the heart and lungs, so protecting yourself when the air quality is poor matters.

😷 MASKS AVAILABLE! FREE OF CHARGE!

We currently have a variety of masks available for our clients and anyone in our community who may need them, including:

N95 Respirator Masks β€” unfitted, size Large
Level 3 Medicom Masks β€” 3-ply, latex-free procedural and surgical masks, sizes Medium and Small only
Regular blue disposable masks

No appointment is necessary ! Simply stop by during our office hours while supplies last!

πŸ“ Shuswap Cardiac Society

πŸ• Monday & Wednesday: 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
πŸ• Tuesday & Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
πŸšͺ Closed Fridays and statutory holidays

Masks are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

❀️ Please share this post! Help us get these masks into the hands of people in our community who may be particularly vulnerable to wildfire smoke and poor air quality.

A very special THANK YOU to United Way for helping us protect the health of our clients and our Shuswap community! ❀️

🌫️ Wildfire Smoke & Your Heart: Take Extra Care

This photo was taken just outside our Shuswap Cardiac Society office this morning in Salmon Arm. On a clear day, we enjoy a beautiful view of the Fly Hills; but today they have disappeared behind a blanket of wildfire smoke. It's a powerful reminder of just how much smoke is in the air. πŸ₯Ί

With wildfire smoke affecting our region, we want to remind EVERYONE (especially those living with heart disease or recovering from a cardiac event!) to take extra precautions.

Poor air quality can place additional stress on your heart and lungs. Even if you don't have breathing problems, smoke exposure may increase your risk of chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, or other cardiovascular symptoms.

❀️ Protect your heart by:
β€’ Stay indoors with windows and doors closed when air quality is poor.
β€’ Avoid strenuous outdoor exercise or yard work.
β€’ Use air conditioning or a HEPA air purifier if available.
β€’ Stay well hydrated and continue taking your medications as prescribed.
β€’ Monitor how you feel and reduce activity if you experience symptoms.

🚨 Call 911 immediately if you experience:
β€’ Chest pain or pressure
β€’ Severe shortness of breath
β€’ Fainting or dizziness
β€’ Symptoms of a heart attack or stroke

Your health and safety come first. If the air quality is poor, it's okay to take a rest day from outdoor activities. There will be better days ahead to enjoy your walk or exercise routine.

Please stay safe, check in on family members, friends, and neighbours who may be at higher risk, and continue to monitor local air quality updates.

❀ Your heart works hard for you every day! Let's do our part to protect it. ❀
