OUR FINAL SALON SUNDAY OF THE SEASON!

This Sunday August 30th will be our final Salon Sunday of the Season, and we are so hoping you will be able to join us! It is going to be an unforgettable day jam-packed with offerings sure to delight children and adults of all ages!!!

Who’s Coming!
Fantasy Author and Tarot Reader Giselle Vriesen will be Reading for us from her latest novel in the Yurt and will then be offering Tarot Readings by the Goat Zone (separate from admission price.) And back after a long hiatus, well-known singer/songwriter Salt Spring’s Lisa Maxx will be sweetly serenading us on the Lower Stage. Planet Janet Hoops over from Victoria will be offering a 1.5-hour hula-hoop workshop that is out of this “Whirled”! All-ages and levels welcome, hoops provided. Papa T is back reading his favorite chapter of Wind in the Willows and this time he will be joined by the extremely talented Simon Millerd on the keyboards! Spoken Word Artist, Actor and Playwright, Angelo Rosso will take us through a wonderful journey of words at the Sacred Well. Our favorite Salt Spring duo Mark Laberge and John Herbert return to the Lower Stage. Gifted musician and writer Forest Tate will be hosting the ever-popular Open Mic, so bring it, a warm and supportive audience awaits you! We are delighted to have West Coast Music Award Nominee Marianne Grittani come to grace our stage once again. She will hold you captive from start to finish at the Upper Stage! Mixed Media Artist Rosie Schinners is back in the Shack hosting another Collage Party and new to the Salons we welcome Face Painting Artist Isla Hood Lundrie. Isla’s amazing face and body paintings are part of the admission price this time around as a way of saying thank you to all of you for your support and your presence at our Salons! And we end this amazing day with an upbeat, fun, witty, five-piece band on a gulf island tour called: On Island Time! Featuring Galiano Island’s Jack Garton and over from Vancouver Island Carolyn Mark, they will be joined by a hot roots’ rhythm section featuring Jodie Ponto on the drums, Kathleen Nisbet on the fiddle and Terri Upton on the upright bass. Their sets will be rootin' and tootin, an island hootenanny cabaret to end this magnificent day!

Mama G’s Eatery will be open once again offering local, organic and seasonal salads, snacks and deserts alongside two hoppin bars with all things Salt Spring. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments available.

Bring your blankets, bring the kids (12 and under are free!), bring your joy and good cheer, and stay for the day, as we bid farewell to another Salon Series! But rest assured we will be back again next summer.

I have to say, I am so grateful and so proud and filled up with awe at what has transpired here on our farm this season. Thank you to all of you who have performed, volunteered, and been a part of our team. And a huge shout out again to the Salt Spring Exchange for helping us spread the word!

• Drop-in Collage Art with Rosie Schinners in the Shack. Rosie is an internationally recognized mixed media artist whose welcoming workshop invites everyone to explore creativity through paper and collage. www.rosieschinners.com

• Lisa Maxx has called Salt Spring Island home for over five decades and has been bringing her heart-centred, folk-imbued original songs, intermingled with some evocative renditions of familiar cover songs, to stages since the late 1980’s. Maxx is delighted to be performing in the August 30, Stonewell Farm Sunday Salon, as part of her gradual return to the stage - one performance at a time - after a 7-year hiatus.

In 1.5 hours, we'll cover everything you need to get spinning: hoop sizing, waist hooping fundamentals, and the body mechanics that make it all click. From there, we'll venture further into the galaxy with hand hooping, simple tricks, off body hooping, ways to throw and catch to hoop, and then optional after the lesson is a 'hoop-jam' where you practice moves and flow to music or take the beginner flow moves and string together for a fabulous hoop dance combo we can do together! Hoops provided or bring your own favorite from home. By the Upper Stage!

Stonewell Farm – Salon Sundays - Come be part of the fun!

I don’t know about you, but I always feel a little bit melancholic in August. Like the summer is going way too fast! But what is keeping me from really moping about is that we still have so much happening here at Stonewell Farm during the month of August!

But first, I want to say a huge thank you to the Dear Deer Improv Team of Salt Spring Island, for another rollicking, hysterical, and magical night of Improv under the Stars on July 9th! The good news is - you have another chance to experience them, coming up on Friday August 21, 2026, at 7pm! Same time, Same awesome Venue and Same Awesome Improv Team!

And then on July 30, we were graced with the presence of 7 incredible musicians, with an evening concert that glowed with beauty. Everywhere I looked there were big, dreamy, appreciative smiles. Thank you Kale Penny and your Merry Band of Buddies – Salt Spring Island’s Lauren Bowler, Jarret Penny, Adam Sutherland, Ryan Clayton and Conner Waddell! Such an enjoyable evening for all. Thank you for coming. Ps - we think they might come back!!!!! And thank you Tony Austin for these wonderful photos! And of course, Marianne Grittani, and Sue Newman for their exquisite opening set. Spoiler Alert – Marianne is coming to our next Salon!

And although we had to cancel the July 26th, Salon Sunday, plans are afoot to add a make-up Salon with many of the same performers coming back on Sunday September 21, Autumn Equinox!

But right now, we are gearing up for our next Salon Sunday on August 30th!And like all of our Salons it is set to absolutely floor you! Next week we will be letting you know who is coming and what to expect!

Let's, as you have all said, show up for August 30th and just to put it out there, what if we had a make-up Autumn Equinox Salon on Sunday September 20 with many of those slated to join us on the 26th returning???

SALON SUNDAY JULY 26, TODAY, AT Stonewell Farm on Salt Spring Island IS CANCELED.....
Well, for all my talk of come despite the rain, the rain collapsed our rain structure above the stage....and quite honestly my spirits collapsed a bit along with it.
So although it is canceled for today, what I really want to do is make this Salon happen in September so really it's a postponement because was it ever going to be EPIC!

This is what has been going on here at Stonewell Farm on Salt Spring Island! We have spent the whole day preparing for rain, so that the Show can go on! So, please don't let the rain,stop you, in fact let it be the reason you come - we are all going to have so much fun and be so cozy! Dress for it, and we have you covered!!

Salon Sundays at Stonewell Farm on Salt Spring Island, is going ahead this Sunday despite the call for rain! And given the many fires and this drought - what a blessing the rain has come!
So, let's live up to our West Coast reputations, and put on the rain gear, and maybe bring some extra umbrellas to share.

Devine Didjeridu Sound healing will still take place in the yurt, Simone Cazabon's Improv Workshop will take place in the barn. The rest of us, will be down at the Lower Stage under cover, where the food and main bar is and where the Drop-in Collage Art will be with Rosie Schinners. We are also covering the Kids Zone so kids can still have some fun mucking around! Senica Maltese has her own tent for Tarot readings. We can adapt to what shows up, and have a lot of fun together in the process.

Personally I think it is going to be cozy and fun and intimate. So don't let the rain stop you, in fact let's do a Silent Rain Blessing Dance with Shauna Devlin: DJ + Movement Facilitator, at the end of the day and give great thanks to the Rain Goddesses. And as the Lakota Sioux say: Mní wičhóni - Water is Life!

Back in the 1920’s in Paris, two female American ex-pats, Gertrude Stein and Natalie Clifford Barney, created what were known as Literary Salons, bringing together avant-garde artists and writers like Picasso and Hemingway, Collette and Eliot, and offering them a sanctuary to the push the boundaries of their time and culture.

So, what is a Salon Sunday? Are we all going to Stonewell Farm to get our hair done? Is it an all-ages group haircut? Now that would be quite the event or should I say social experiment…

Salon Sundays does get its inspiration from Gertrude and Natalie, because its intention is quite similar - to facilitate gatherings that promote, encourage, admire, and are in awe of human expression in its many, and varied forms. And it takes place in a Sanctuary that feels safe and nourishing and alive – welcoming people of all-ages to be themselves, to mingle, to have real conversations, to lounge, to listen, to enjoy the fruits and labours of the many farmers growing the food, and the many distillers of all things local.

They are not private, or lavish, but deeply important and moving. Because we are living in turbulent times where these kinds of gatherings are so needed. So that within the chaos, we can find each other and express to each other through art, and music and words, the deepest longings of our human hearts - as we have always done.

You will have two more opportunities to participate this season – Sunday July 26th and Sunday August 30, 2026, from 1-8pm. Thank you to all those who have come and will be coming to savour the flavours of this magical Event – Salon Sundays at Stonewell Farm.

Salon Sundays are magical mini festivals intended to be affordable and fun for everyone. There is movement and dance, live music and poetry, as well as an Open Mic for those who want to take a leap or those moved to share. There are workshops, conversation, meditation, community and culture, laughter and love. Mama G’s Eatery will be serving up organic seasonal dishes with a licensed bar to sip local beverages.

Salon Sundays returns to Stonewell Farm this month on July 26th, with an eclectic gathering of musicians, singers, artists, storytellers, facilitators and community creators from Salt Spring and beyond.
