💙 June is Seniors Month 💙

June is a time to celebrate the incredible seniors who have shaped our families, built our communities, and continue to inspire us every day.

Working with seniors has taught me that every person has a story worth hearing, wisdom worth sharing, and a legacy worth celebrating. From laughter around the kitchen table to life lessons learned through decades of experience, I am constantly reminded of the strength, resilience, and kindness that exists within our senior population.

At On The Go Nurse, seniors are at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s nursing foot care, wellness visits, health education, or simply providing a listening ear, it is a privilege to support older adults in maintaining their independence, dignity, and quality of life.

This month, and every month, we celebrate the seniors who continue to make our communities stronger.

Thank you for your trust, your stories, and the impact you’ve had on so many lives. 💙

Happy Seniors Month!

💙 Today is Lou Gehrig Day. 💙

As a nurse and daughter, I’ve had the privilege of caring for many individuals living with life-changing illnesses and supporting the families who walk alongside them.

ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), often known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a devastating disease that slowly takes away a person’s ability to move, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. Yet what it can never take away is the strength, courage, and spirit of those living with it.

Today, I honour the individuals and families who face ALS with incredible resilience every single day. I also recognize the caregivers, spouses, children, friends, and healthcare teams who provide unwavering support through the challenges this disease brings.

Working in the community has been a constant reminder to me that behind every diagnosis is a person with a story, a family with hopes, and a life that deserves dignity, compassion, and quality care.

Take a moment today to learn about ALS, support research, or simply hold space for those affected by this disease.

💙 To those living with ALS and the families who love them: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone.

Happy National Nursing Week 💙

As an independent nurse working solo in the community, this week feels especially meaningful to me.

While many of my days are spent working one-on-one with clients through On The Go Nurse, nursing is never truly done alone. Behind every nurse is a network of incredible peers, mentors, educators, healthcare teams, and friends who continue to inspire, support, and collaborate along the way.

I’m incredibly thankful for the nurses and healthcare professionals who have shared their knowledge, answered my questions, encouraged my growth, and reminded me of the power of compassionate care. The collaboration within healthcare professionals is something I never take for granted.

To my clients and families, thank you for trusting me to walk alongside you in your care journey. Being welcomed into your homes and lives is a privilege I deeply value.

This week is a reminder that nursing is more than a career. It’s connection, advocacy, lifelong learning, and heart.

To every healthcare professional making a difference in big and small ways every day: thank you for all that you do. Your work matters more than you know.

Happy Nursing Week 🤍

Fall Prevention Starts With Your Feet 👣

As a footcare nurse, I see it all the time —
foot pain, long nails, or poor footwear quietly changing how people walk.

Small changes in your gait = BIG fall risk.

👣 Your feet are your foundation.
If they’re not right… your balance isn’t either.

The good news?
Many falls are preventable with proper footcare and education.

Something only friends know about me..I truly love a certificate with my name on it.

More importantly, I love learning. When you’re passionate about what you do, education becomes something you genuinely enjoy.

Professional development is an essential part of delivering high-quality care and that’s exactly what my clients deserve.

Continuing to grow my knowledge allows me to provide the most current, safe, and effective foot care practices, while also strengthening the foundation of my business.

I’m especially grateful to continue learning alongside my long-time preceptor and friend, whose mentorship continues to guide and support me years later.

👣 Thank you to my clients for investing in me—so I can continue investing in you.

The River Run has always been my kick off summer event. I Hope to see this wonderful community out supporting the St Clair River Run 2026. Whether you participate, volunteer, or sponsor, it’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning being outside and supporting your community. 🏃

Love the River Run but not feeling the sprints this year? We need YOU! 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️

An event this big takes a village. We are looking for energetic volunteers to help make the 2026 St. Clair River Run a success on May 30th. It’s a front-row seat to the action and a fantastic way to give back to our community.

Not a volunteer? There is still time to register for the Half-Marathon, 10k, 5k, 2.5k, or the Minnow Run!
Check out the flyer for details and scan the QR code to join the team, or visit our website stclairriverrun.org 🌊✨

A lot of people assume all pedicures are the same—but there’s a big difference between a spa/esthetic pedicure and medical foot care 👣
A pedicure by a foot care nurse (sometimes called medical foot care) is focused on health and safety. It’s done by a trained professional who understands conditions like diabetes, poor circulation, thickened nails, fungal infections, corns, and calluses. Tools are sterilized to medical standards, and the goal is to treat and prevent problems, not just make feet look nice.
A regular spa pedicure, on the other hand, is primarily cosmetic. It includes soaking, nail shaping, polish, and light callus smoothing. While it’s great for relaxation and appearance, it’s not designed to safely manage complex or high-risk foot issues.
👉 So which one should you choose?
Choose medical foot care if you have foot pain, thick nails, ingrown nails, diabetes, or any concerns about foot health.
Choose a spa pedicure if your feet are generally healthy and you’re looking for maintenance and relaxation.
Your feet carry you every day—sometimes they need more than just a polish 💙

Caregiver Burnout is Real 💛

Caregiving is meaningful—but it can also be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding.

If you’re feeling exhausted or overwhelmed, it’s not a sign of weakness.
It’s a sign that support is needed.

Proactive ways to reduce burnout:

✨ Schedule regular breaks before exhaustion sets in
✨ Accept support—sustainable care is never done alone
✨ Maintain small, consistent routines that support your well-being
✨ Set clear boundaries to protect your time and energy

Providing high-quality care starts with a well-supported caregiver.

At On The Go Nurse, we offer professional, compassionate support for both clients and caregivers:

✔️ In-home nursing care
✔️ Foot care & wellness visits
✔️ Respite support for families

Our goal is simple—help you continue caring, without compromising your own health.

🌍 World TB Day – March 24

Tuberculosis (TB) may feel like a disease of the past — but its history tells a powerful story that still matters today.

During times of war, including World War I and II, TB spread rapidly. Crowded living conditions, poor nutrition, and limited access to healthcare created the perfect environment for infection. At one point, TB was one of the leading causes of death worldwide, often called “consumption” because of how it slowly weakened the body.

While we’ve made incredible progress, TB has never fully disappeared.

🫁 What is TB?
TB is a bacterial infection that usually affects the lungs and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or speaks.

👥 Who can get TB?
Anyone can get TB — but risk increases with close contact, weakened immune systems, and shared living environments.

🏥 Why are healthcare workers screened?
Healthcare workers are routinely screened for TB because:
• They are at higher risk of exposure
• Early detection protects vulnerable patients
• It helps prevent outbreaks in healthcare settings

Screening is not just about the individual — it’s about protecting entire communities.

🧪 Prevention & Testing
• TB is preventable and treatable
• Testing includes skin tests, blood tests, and chest X-rays
• Early treatment stops the spread

💙 Why this matters today
TB is still considered a global health concern, affecting millions each year. Awareness, early detection, and reducing stigma are key to ending it.
