In menopause and perimenopause I look for the “potholes”- the deficiencies a woman may be experiencing that of course include but are not limited to hormones. Women come into menopause often very deficient and depleted. And guess what? Many times as I explain this to my clients, they recognize many of these symptoms in their kids and family members, maybe even in their students or clients! We are a world out of balance. And although I’m not oversimplifying because life is very complicated….the foundations need to be addressed. This has never changed for as long as I’ve been in practice and long before that. Know your numbers. Know your Omega6:3 ratio and your omega 3 Index. It’s a great start. It’s cost effective. It’s standard of care. It’s evidence based. And it’s the missing portion on your plate every day. Move over protein!! 💪🏻💪🏻Make room for essential 🐠🐠

Are the supplements you’re taking actually working for you? Have you ever bought a supplement and hoped it would work? Have you ever continued taking a supplement hoping it was working but not entirely sure that you felt any different. This is the sort of scenario. I deal with every day with my patients and when I offer them an opportunity to objectively measure what’s going on in their cell membranes to help them understand whether or not their cells are in a condition to absorb anything… they jump at the opportunity…. Because it answers a question that they are silently asking without realizing that there’s an answer available to them. Comment “test” and I’ll send you some info! #

So many menopause and perimenopausal clients I work with struggle with finding a primary care provider who can help direct their care here in Saskatchewan. I know this problem is not unique to this region because women all over the country may not know who to turn to if their family doctor retired as one example. There are many women I work with who haven’t had updated bloodwork in 2 to 3 years and although I can certainly help by ordering their blood work when it comes to ordering screening test, like paps or mammograms or uterine ultrasounds, it can create a real bottleneck in their care so I am now exploring different online and virtual care platforms that are not limited to this province where women will be able to access care from Nurse Practitioner and other medical professionals without leaving the province. Stay tuned as I learn more. I will share some resources with you. Let me know if this is of interest to you.

Today I had one of those full circle moments that makes you stop and reflect.

I ran into a patient who was one of the very first women to participate in our Thermography Clinic back in 2003. As I gave her a big hug and told her how good it was to see her, it suddenly hit me just how many years I’ve been supporting women’s health in this community.

For over two decades, we’ve helped women gain deeper insight into the functional changes that may be happening in their breast tissue and throughout their bodies. What I’ve always appreciated about thermography is that it gives us another lens through which to look at physiology, patterns, inflammation, circulation, and change over time, while empowering women to become more proactive and connected to their health.

But beyond the scans, the reports, and the appointments, what stays with me most are the relationships. Seeing women years later, hearing their stories, watching them continue to prioritize themselves and their health, is incredibly meaningful.

Supporting women through the many phases of life and health has truly been one of the greatest privileges of my career. health

Something really fascinating happened after I dislocated my shoulder…

One of the things I started learning about in the rehab literature is something called cross-education.

And it basically means this:

Even if one arm is injured or immobilized… training the OTHER arm can actually help preserve strength and function in the injured side.

Researchers have shown that when you train one side of the body, both sides of the brain and nervous system are activated.

So even though my injured shoulder may not be moving normally right now… my nervous system is still receiving input through training the opposite side.

And that can help reduce some of the strength loss that normally happens after injury or immobilization.

I found this so encouraging because when you’re injured, it’s easy to feel like everything has to stop.

But the body is incredibly adaptive.

And this is such a good reminder that recovery isn’t only about the injured area itself.

It’s about supporting the whole system:
• nervous system
• inflammation
• muscle activation
• circulation
• sleep
• nutrition
• movement

And as somebody who teaches root-cause medicine and whole-body healing, I love seeing modern rehab science validating how interconnected the body really is.

So if you’re dealing with an injury right now… don’t automatically assume you have to become completely inactive.

There are often smarter ways to support healing while still supporting the rest of the body.

When it comes to gut health, people often want a clear test or quick answer.

And while testing can sometimes give us helpful information, it’s not always definitive. In many cases, we’re looking at patterns: your symptoms, your digestion, and how your body is responding overall.

Things like bloating, gas, constipation, or irregular digestion are often signs of an underlying imbalance.

So rather than focusing on identifying one specific issue, the goal is to support the gut as a whole, essentially “weeding the garden” and creating a healthier environment.

That’s where real, lasting change happens.

But what it gave me was the strength the re-enter my life and show up for my moms celebration of life in a way that didn’t seem possible. If you’re at a place in your life where you’re feeling at a crossroads and wonder what life might look like with a new perspective… come spend the weeknd exploring some new concepts.
