June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize, honour and learn from the rich histories, cultures, traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.

It is also an important opportunity to reflect on the truth of our shared history, including the lasting impacts of colonialism and the role institutions, including healthcare systems, continue to play in reconciliation.

Across the Interlake-Eastern region, many of the communities we serve have deep and longstanding Indigenous roots. We are grateful for the knowledge, strength, leadership and traditions Indigenous Peoples continue to share with our region every day.

Reconciliation is not a single moment or statement. It is ongoing work rooted in listening, learning, relationship-building and action.

This month, we also want to recognize and thank our Indigenous Health team for the important work they do throughout the year. Through advocacy, education, cultural support, community engagement and relationship-building, they help advance culturally safe care and strengthen connections between healthcare services and Indigenous communities across our region.

National Indigenous History Month is a time to honour the diverse cultures, experiences, and vital contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and how we can take tangible steps toward reconciliation.

Over the month of June, we are reflecting on the past, present, and future contributions of Indigenous people across our health system and on the work being done to improve experiences and outcomes for Indigenous people throughout Manitoba.

By weaving together past, present, and future, we can bring together diverse perspectives and move forward in a good way while honouring the path that brought us here.

Happy Pride Month from Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Pride is a celebration of identity, community, visibility and inclusion, an important reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported, including within healthcare spaces.

Across our region, teams continue working to create welcoming environments for patients, residents, families and staff from all walks of life and identities. Because healthcare works best when people feel comfortable being themselves and accessing the care they need.

We’re also proud to see Pride celebrations happening across communities throughout the Interlake-Eastern region this summer, helping build connection, visibility and belonging in both urban and rural Manitoba.

Happy Pride Month to all who are celebrating. We see you, we support you, and you belong here.

A dresser might seem like a small thing. But in a personal care home, it’s part of someone’s home.

Thanks to an incredibly generous $30,870 gift from Irv Koch, resident rooms at Rosewood Lodge will soon receive new dressers and nightstands, replacing furniture that has supported residents for more than 20 years.

For residents and families, this is about so much more than furniture. It’s about dignity, comfort, safety and creating spaces that feel warm, welcoming and cared for.

This is also not the first time Mr. Koch has stepped forward to support care in Stonewall. His generosity previously helped fund the Sunshine and Peace Patio at Stonewall Hospital’s palliative care space, creating places of comfort both inside and outside the hospital walls.

Thank you, Irv, for continuing to make a meaningful difference in your community.
