Over the past few weeks, residents at East Gate Lodge have had a front-row seat to one of natureās most incredible transformations, watching endangered monarch butterflies grow from eggs to caterpillars, form their chrysalises and finally emerge as butterflies.
Itās all thanks to Karen Berry, a long-time volunteer, recreation casual worker and, as far as weāre concerned, official butterfly whisperer. š¦
Karen carefully collects monarch eggs from milkweed on her property, then comes in every day to check on them, feed the caterpillars and clean their enclosure. This is the third year sheās brought the experience to East Gate Lodge, and this summer, approximately 30 butterflies were released.
For the final send-off, residents gathered outside to wish the monarchs safe travels as they begin their incredible migration south to Mexico for the winter. ā¤ļø
Safe travels, little ones. Weāll be waiting for you next year! š¦
