The Community Canvas: Your Health. Your Community. Your Voice.

Calling all youth ages 5–18 from SLFNHA communities!

We want to see your creativity, your ideas, and your vision for health and wellbeing in your community!

As part of this year’s Fun in the Sun campaign, SLFNHA has launched The Community Canvas, a new youth showcase where you can share your ideas through original artwork or a short message. This showcase started on August 1st. The last day to enter is September 1st, 2026.

Fun in the Sun Theme:
“What does being safe on the land and water mean to you?”

Prizes include:
Bike Safety Package – bike, bike lock, front/rear brake lights, water bottle, first aid kit, and reflective vest/bands
Fishing/Water Safety Package – fishing rod, tackle box, boat safety kit, lifejacket, waterproof dry bag, whistle, flashlight, and first aid kit
ATV Safety Package – ATV helmet, high-visibility vest, safety goggles, work gloves, handwarmers, headlamp, emergency blanket, and first aid kit

And your creativity could reach even more people!

Selected submissions may be featured in a future SLFNHA Community Health Calendar and/or other health promotion material, giving youth an opportunity to share their voices and ideas with communities across the region.

This year’s showcase is being piloted through Fun in the Sun, with the potential for The Community Canvas to become an annual ACW youth initiative featuring different health and wellness themes throughout the year.

Youth Resilience: Our Strength, Our Future

As summer comes to an end and a new school year begins, let’s celebrate the strength, spirit, and potential of our young people.

Resilience grows through connection - to culture, ceremony, community, family, Elders, and the land. Traditional sports are more than activities, they build confidence, teamwork, discipline, connection, and a strong sense of belonging.

Your spirit is strong. You carry the strength and resilience of those who came before you.

Play is medicine.

Let’s create spaces where our youth can learn, lead, connect, and know that they are an important part of the future of our communities.

If you or someone you care about is looking for support, a variety of mental wellness programs and services are available to walk alongside you. Everyone’s healing journey is unique, and we encourage you to explore the resources available to find the support that feels right for your journey. Culturally grounded mental wellness programs and services are here to support you.
