My apologies, but unfortunately Fern & Fire will not be able to make the market this weekend. 💜

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and if you’re able, please head down to the market and support the amazing local vendors who put so much time, devotion, creativity, and passion into their businesses.

Shopping local truly does matter. 🌿

So many small and home-based businesses begin with something very simple — a passion, an idea, a hobby, or a dream — and slowly grow into something much bigger. They become a way to contribute to a family, connect with a community, build confidence, and sometimes even create an entirely new path in life.

Behind every table at a market there are countless hours that you don’t always see — planning, creating, baking, growing, making, packaging, pricing, loading, unloading, and hoping that someone will stop by and see the love that went into it all.

When you purchase from a local vendor, share their post, tell a friend about them, or even simply stop at their table and say hello, you are supporting a real person and a real dream.

So although Fern & Fire won’t be there this weekend, I hope you’ll still head down, wander through the market, and show some love to all of the incredible local businesses who will be. 💜🌿

I’m looking for 5–6 tea lovers to become part of my very first Fern & Fire Founding Tea Tasters.

Over the next few months, I’ll be creating new handcrafted tea blends inspired by the beauty of the Boreal Forest, cozy evenings, and the changing seasons. Before they become part of my collection, I’d love to hear what real tea drinkers think!

If selected, you’ll receive complimentary tea samples in exchange for honest feedback. I’ll include a simple tasting card so you can tell me what you loved, what you’d change, and whether you’d buy it.

Good morning, and Happy Sunday! ❤️

First, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who stopped by Fern & Fire yesterday and continues to support my little home-based business. Your kindness, encouragement, and support mean more to me than you’ll ever know.

Yesterday at the market was the very first time I introduced the Fern & Fire Cozy Corner. I wasn’t sure how it would be received, but I can honestly say that my heart was so full by the end of the day.

Seeing people stop to sample tea, escape the heat for a little while, and simply sit and relax was everything I had hoped it would be. Elderly couples, families with their children, friends, and people of all ages found a quiet place to pause.

But what brought me the greatest joy was watching complete strangers begin chatting with one another, without worrying about the time or where they had to be next.

It was a beautiful thing to witness.

Because this is exactly how I envisioned Fern & Fire – Handcrafted Teas & Botanicals when I first started this little business over nine months ago.

It was never just about selling tea.

It was about creating a space and product, where people could slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the simple moments that so often get lost in our busy lives.

Some people collect china because it’s valuable.

I collect it because I wonder.

I wonder who first held that teacup.

Was it given as a wedding gift to a young couple just beginning their lives together?

Did it sit proudly in a china cabinet, only coming out at Christmas, Easter, anniversaries, or when special company came to visit?

Did two lifelong friends spend an afternoon together sharing tea and talking about life while holding that very cup?

Did a grandmother carefully pour tea for her family, while serving a fresh slice of baked apple pie like my grandmother? Reminding the children to “be gentle with the good china”?

Each piece carries a story that I’ll never know… but I love imagining it.

To me, these aren’t simply teacups and saucers. They are gentle reminders that life has always been about gathering around a table, slowing down, sharing conversations, celebrating milestones, comforting one another, and making memories.

That is the heart behind Fern & Fire.

My dream has never been to build the biggest business.

My dream has simply been to create a place where people feel welcome.

A place where friends reconnect, strangers become friends, families laugh together, and conversations matter again.

Because sometimes all it takes is a simple cup of tea to remind us what we’ve been missing.

These beautiful pieces were recently gifted to me by the daughter of my dear friend, Roxann. They will never be sold. Instead, they will be lovingly displayed in my future tea house, where they’ll continue to tell their silent stories and remind us that the most precious things we inherit are not made of china…

They’re the moments shared around it.

Mother Earth has so much beauty, and hidden within that beauty are so many amazing and powerful medicinal plants. 🌲💚

I found a bit of this beautiful Douglas Fir resin while at our campground. Before collecting any, I asked the host if it was okay. She smiled and said, “Oh, you’re one of those nature lovers,” then put her hand on my arm and said, “Absolutely, but please don’t use a knife.”

I told her I would only collect a little from each tree and would use only my fingers. She smiled again and said, “I can definitely tell you know your stuff.”

The resin sits so beautifully on the bark of these trees that the hardened pieces literally come away cleanly with my fingers, without damaging the bark.

When collecting resin, using a knife can damage the tree. You can injure the inner bark and cambium and leave the tree more vulnerable to insects, tree borers and fungal infection.

When a tree is damaged, it produces resin and pushes it toward the wound to help protect itself.

The pieces I collected were outside the wound areas of the trees. I will never pick resin from an area that I know, or even think, may be protecting a wound. To me, that would be like picking a scab off yourself and leaving the wound exposed.

Nature gives us so many incredible gifts, but we have a responsibility to be respectful when harvesting them. Take only a little. Never take everything from one plant or tree. Never cause damage just to collect something.

Overharvesting can cause plants to disappear from an area, and in this case, careless harvesting can create even more damage to an amazingly beautiful tree.

And when you receive something as beautiful as this, don’t forget to give back ❤️

These are one of the many medicines that I use in my botanicals. The Douglas Fir resin traditionally is used for

🌲 Cuts and minor wounds
🌲 scrapes and irritated skin
🌲 poultices over injured skin
🌲 salves and balms

Outside of traditional medicine it can be used for waterproofing and sealing material.

Douglas Fir resin contains complex aromatic compounds including Monoterpenes, Sesquiterpenes and Diterpenes.

Mono are the smaller, lighter compounds . They are very aromatic and make up the major part of the fresh, pine forest smell.

Sesqui are a little larger in compounds and a little less to evaporate. They are often studied for their soothing and protective biological activity.

Diter are larger, heavier and stickier and are what gives the resin its lasting, protective quality.

This beautiful resin will be made into a healing salve.

I’ve been developing and testing my new bug spray over the past couple of months. I wanted to ensure that it worked before launching it. I’ve tried it in different areas, climates etc. on the water, at the beach and in the bush. Well between Alberta and BC I can confidently say it has worked amazing on myself. I’ll be selling these at my next market on July 18th!
