Sometimes the body whispers before it shouts.

And in midlife, those whispers can be easy to brush off.
“I’m just getting older.”
“It’s probably menopause.”
“I’m busy.”
“This is normal now.”

But certain patterns can be worth paying attention to.
Not because they automatically mean your
Omega-3 and Omega-6 balance is off.

They don’t.

But they may be one reason to get curious about whether your body is getting enough essential fat support.

Some women notice:
brain fog that feels different than normal tiredness
skin that feels drier or less resilient
mood that feels less steady
stiffness that makes them feel older than they are
low energy, even when they’re trying to eat well
sleep that doesn’t feel as restorative

These patterns can have many causes:
hormones, stress, blood sugar, thyroid, iron, sleep, digestion, hydration, medication, and more.

That’s why I never like to reduce a woman’s body to one thing.

But Omega-3s are part of the structure of cell membranes,
and DHA is especially concentrated in the brain and eyes.

So yes, fatty acids are worth talking about.

Especially for women who are tired of guessing.

DM if you want information on checking your Omega 3/6 levels.

One of the reasons women get frustrated in midlife
is because the advice is often too generic.

Eat less.
Move more.
Sleep better.
Reduce stress.
Take Omega-3s.
Drink more water.

None of that is wrong.
It’s just incomplete.

Because two women can eat very similar foods and still have very different bodies, stress loads, sleep patterns, hormone shifts, digestion, nutrient needs, and fatty acid levels.

That’s why I like to look at the body in layers.
What are you eating?
Are you digesting it well?
Are you getting enough protein?
How is your blood sugar?
How is your sleep?
How much stress is your nervous system carrying?
Are you getting enough essential fats?
What does your Omega-6:Omega-3 balance look like?

This is where fatty acid balance testing can be useful (ask me how)
It doesn’t replace the conversation.
It gives us another piece of it.

And sometimes that piece helps a woman understand why “I’m doing everything right” still doesn’t feel like enough.
Midlife is not the time for cookie-cutter wellness.
It’s the time to get more curious, more specific, and more respectful of what the body is trying to communicate.

Let’s make Omega-3s and Omega-6s less confusing.

Both are essential fats.

That means your body needs them,
but you have to get them from food.

Omega-3s include:
ALA: found in foods like flax, chia, h**p, and walnuts
EPA and DHA: found mostly in fatty fish and seafood

Omega-6s include
fats like linoleic acid,
which we get from foods such as nuts, seeds, and many plant oils.

Here’s the part that often gets missed:
Omega-6s are not “bad.”
We need them too.

The issue is that modern diets often contain a lot of Omega-6 from ultra-processed foods and refined oils, while Omega-3 intake can be much lower.

So the conversation is not:
Omega-3 good.
Omega-6 bad.

It’s more like:
Are we getting enough of the fats that help support healthy cell structure?

Are we getting enough fatty fish or plant-based Omega-3 foods?

Are we relying too heavily on packaged and processed foods?

Do we actually know what our current fatty acid balance looks like?

That last question is why testing can be helpful.

Not because it diagnoses anything.

Because it gives information.

And in midlife, more information can help us make better decisions instead of guessing.

Reach out if you're curious about how to get testing done. I know how.

It’s been a little over a week since Emergence,
and I’m still getting messages from women about what that morning meant to them.

That has honestly stayed with me.

Not because it was “my event.”

Because it confirmed something I’ve felt for a long time:

Women are hungry for spaces where they can breathe again.

Where they can learn without being talked down to.

Ask questions without feeling silly.

Meet practitioners who see the whole person.

Sit in a room with other women and remember,
“Oh right… I’m not meant to do all of this alone.”

Emergence was never just about menopause.
It was about energy.
Confidence.
Longevity.
Connection.
And feeling that little spark come back online.

The gratitude I’ve received from the community
has been beautiful,
but I think what touched me most
is how many women said some version of:
“I didn’t know how much I needed this.”

That is exactly why the Butterfly Garden exists.

Not as another thing on your to-do list.

As a place to come back to yourself, one small step at a time.

To every woman who came, shared, smiled, cried, laughed, introduced herself, asked a question, brought a friend, or simply allowed herself to receive for a morning
thank you.

You made the room what it was.

And we’re just getting started . . . . 😄
