Not sure whether to book Manual Osteopathy or Chiropractic care? Both treatments focus on improving movement, reducing pain, and helping the body function better — but they often use different approaches. Chiropractic treatment typically focuses more on the spine, joints, and nervous system, often involving adjustments/manipulation to improve mobility and alignment. Manual Osteopathy tends to take a broader whole-body approach, incorporating soft tissue work, joint mobilization, cranial techniques, visceral work, posture, and movement patterns to assess how different areas of the body are connected. Some patients prefer one style over the other, while many benefit from a combination of both depending on their goals, symptoms, and comfort level. The good news is that Dr. Schmidt offers both, allowing treatment to be tailored specifically to what your body needs.

“Deeper” doesn’t always mean “better” when it comes to massage treatment. While firm pressure can be helpful for some people and conditions, too much pressure sometimes cause the body to guard, tense up, or become more irritated instead of relaxing. Effective treatment is about working with the nervous system and tissues — not forcing through pain. In many cases, slower and more precise techniques with moderate pressure can create longer-lasting relief than aggressive deep tissue work. The best massage is one that your body can actually respond positively to, not one you have to endure.

Getting the most out of your massage treatment starts before you even get on the table. Staying hydrated, eating a light meal beforehand, and arriving a few minutes early can help your body relax and respond better to the treatment. Remember to communicate openly about pain, tension, stress, injuries, or areas you want addressed to allow your practitioner to tailor the treatment specifically to you. Massage is most effective when your nervous system feels safe and regulated — not rushed and tense — so giving yourself time to slow down beforehand can make a noticeable difference in how your body releases and recovers afterward.

Most people don’t realize how much movement is happening inside the body.

Your organs need to glide.
Your nervous system needs to regulate.
Even your skull has subtle motion.

When something loses that movement, the body compensates—and that’s often where pain shows up.

That’s why treating only the sore spot doesn’t always last.

If you’ve tried different treatments but something still feels off, this might be the missing piece.
