Ever started the season strong — then slowly lost the gains because riding took over? I’ve seen it a hundred times. You keep riding, skip the gym, and next thing you know your legs feel flat on climbs and your position falls apart late in rides.
Here’s the fix I use with riders: the Minimum Effective Dose (MED). Simple idea: do the least amount of strength work that actually preserves what riding doesn’t give you — heavy squat/hinge patterns, pulling work, and core stability. That can look like:
• 1 session/week (30–45 min) — the true minimum
• 2 sessions/week (30–60 min) — the sweet spot
• 10–20 min micro-sessions, 2–3×/week — when life is chaos
MED isn’t perfect training. It’s the smart, sustainable option so you stay consistent through the season and avoid small aches turning into real problems. If something’s injured, recovery comes first — MED helps you adjust training without losing everything.
Want a clear next step? Pick one: 1 full-body session this week OR 2 short sessions OR 2–3 micro sessions. Start small. Stay consistent. Stay strong.

(And why most riders lose their strength every summer)IntroductionEvery year, it happens. You start the season strong. You’ve been in the gym. You feel powerful. Stable. Confident. Then riding ramps up.More trail days. Longer rides. Maybe a race or two.And slowly…You stop lifting. Not because you do...
