Why I often recommend Lip Blush BEFORE Lip Filler 💋

If you’re considering both lip blush and lip filler for the first time, I personally prefer to see the lip blush done first — and there are a few reasons why.

✨ 1. It gives me a beautiful, natural canvas.
Lip blush is easier to perform when the lips haven’t been recently filled. I can work with the natural shape, tissue and borders of the lips without added volume changing the anatomy I’m working with.

✨ 2. You may discover you don’t need as much filler as you thought.
Once lip blush has healed, many clients are surprised by how much more defined, balanced and naturally enhanced their lips appear. The improved colour and definition can create the illusion of fuller lips, even without adding volume.

✨ 3. Lip blush can enhance the overall “juiciness” of the lips.
The microtrauma created during the lip-blushing process initiates the skin’s natural healing response. As the lips heal, they can temporarily appear softer, smoother and more hydrated-looking. While lip blush does not replace filler or create the same type of structural volume, the finished result can make the lips look beautifully refreshed and youthful.

✨ 4. Then you can decide whether you actually want more volume.
This is my favourite reason. Rather than automatically adding filler first, you can see what colour, definition and symmetry alone do for your lips. If you still want additional volume afterward, you can make that decision from a much more informed place.

My philosophy has always been enhance, never overwhelm. Sometimes the most beautiful result isn’t about adding more — it’s about bringing out what is already there. 🤍

Permanent makeup is never “one size fits all.”

When a client has a unique skin condition such as ichthyosis, the level of skill, experience and precision required goes far beyond simply creating a beautiful brow.

It begins with understanding the skin in front of me.

Every client heals differently. Every canvas behaves differently. And when the skin has a compromised or altered barrier, I have to be even more intentional about technique, pressure, depth, saturation, needle selection and overall approach.

There is no rushing the process.

It takes years of experience to recognize what the skin is telling you and to know when to adjust your technique — while still creating a result that looks soft, natural and beautifully balanced.

For me, permanent makeup has never been about following a formula.

It is about studying the individual, respecting their skin and using precision to create the most appropriate result possible.

This is why continuing education, advanced knowledge and hands-on experience matter so much in our industry.

Because beautiful permanent makeup isn’t just about the finished photograph.

It’s about the skill behind it.
